Today at school, teacher read a book about dragons and then showed the film "How to Train Your Dragon" to the pets. She said this was to celebrate the upcoming "Appreciate a Dragon Day" which occurs annually on January 16th. This holiday commemorates the wonders of this powerful and mystical creature that appears in art, film and literature all over the world! As Scaredy Cat sits at home, he looks over at the photo of his best friend, Kaida, who he thinks is the best dragon in all of Pets 'n' Friends. Until she had to move away, they did everything together. Kaida was always encouraging him to try new things and to be brave. To honor his dragon-friend during this special occasion, he gets a bowl of jelly beans, her favorite treat, and he snacks on them while he watches a show on TV.

This week, let's honor dragons and celebrate Appreciate a Dragon Day! Dragons have appeared in many popular books and movies and there's a lot of art featuring this powerful creature. You've read how Scaredy Cat is going to show his appreciation for dragons. What ways can you and your pet show your appreciation for dragons? How about learning how to write in Dragonese? Read a story that has dragons in them! Maybe you and your pet can locate a dragon convention where you can explore the cultural significance of the dragon in your society and history. We can't wait to see what you do as you show your appreciation for dragons!!
