One hundred years later, bicycle mechanics brothers Duryea of Springfield, Massachusetts, designed the first successful American gasoline automobile (in 1893), then won the first American car race in 1895, and went on to make the first sale of an American-made gasoline car the next year. In 1908 Henry Ford introduced the Model T and William Durant founded General Motors. As for the railroad locomotives, the 19th century was a a time of massive development by US pioneers in this form of travel. The United States Navy recognizes its birthday as 13 October 1775, the day that the Continental Congress authorized the creation of a single, unified navy instead of a patchwork of fleets controlled by individual states.

Dominating oceania, and in close proximity to New Zealand and New Guinea, Australia is surrounded by water, with the Indian Ocean to the west; Timor Sea, Arafura Sea, Gulf of Carpentaria and Coral Sea to the north; the Pacific Ocean to the east; and the Southern Ocean and Tasman Sea to the south.

Historically, walkabout referred to an Indigenous Australian spiritual journey across Country, marking the transition from adolescence to adulthood. During their walkabout, an adolescent practices the skills and knowledge required of adults in their community to survive alone in the outback.

The Turkish flag consists of a red field with a white crescent moon and five-pointed star placed slightly off-centre. The crescent and the star have long been symbols of Islam, but the symbols were already used in Anatolia. The design derives from the original Ottoman flag dating from the 1700s. When the Republic of Turkey was established in 1923, it took as its flag that which was used by the Ottoman Empire. During the dozen subsequent years, various refinements were made to the flag, for example, the specific shade of vivid red that was to be used. The present flag design was first approved in 1936.

The Republic of Turkey is principally located in Asia, with a portion lying in south-eastern Europe. The country is of a very rough rectangular shape, bounded on three sides by the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea respectively. Its capital city is Ankara, in the region of Central Anatolia. Turkey's highest mountain, Mount Ararat has two peaks, with Great Ararat reaching 16,945 feet (5165 m). The mountain is believed to be where Noah beached his Ark after the great flood (Genesis ch 6-9).

The Danish flag is a white Scandinavian cross on a red background, or "field". In the Kingdom of Denmark it is called the Dannebrog, which is old Danish for "The Danish Cloth". It is in the Top 12 most recognisable national flags in the world, and its design was probably the source of the similarity of designs for its fellow Scandinavian neighbours. It holds the Guinness record for the distinction of being the oldest continuously used national flag!

The flag of the Faroe Islands is a red Scandinavian cross, fimbriated (flag-talk for "bordered") blue. The flag of the Faroes was made by Faroese students in Copenhagen and later brought to the Faroes where it was first hoisted on 22 June 1919. About a decade later, in 1931, it came into common but unofficial use.

The flag of the Kingdom of Norway has a red field and a blue Scandinavian cross with a white border. The blue cross points to the long-term ties to Sweden. The flag was designed in 1821 but it was not adopted as a state flag until 1898.

The exact age of the Swedish flag is not known, but the oldest recorded pictures of a blue cloth with a yellow cross date from the 16th century. The design of the Swedish flag is probably taken from the Danish flag, and its blue and yellow colours probably originated in the 14th century, when the Swedish coat of arms with three gold crowns on a blue background was created. The flag has been in use since 1521; however the current design was not officially adopted until 1906.

The Alberta flag has a simple design featuring the provincial crest on a blue background. The crest itself features a stylised representation of the Alberta landscape topped by the Cross of St George, a symbol of England.

British Columbia’s flag was created in 1960. Based on the BC coat of arms, it is a representation of an old saying: “the sun never sets on the British Empire." It depicts a never-setting sun against the waves of the Pacific coast — at one time one of the Empire’s farthest-flung points.

During the country’s early history as a British colony, Canada had no flag other than the Union Jack. But the British needed a way to tell their colonies apart, so in the late 19th century it became popular to make what were known as ensigns for each colony; a red or blue flag with a little Union Jack in the top left corner and some sort of distinguishing crest or symbol in the bottom right. The Canadian one was called the Red Ensign, and featured a red field with the Union Jack and the Canadian coat of arms. In 1921 a standard Red Ensign started being used as the Canadian national flag. As Canada grew more politically independent from Britain during the 20th century, however, the Red Ensign became increasingly unpopular. Prime Minister Lester Pearson (serving from 1963-1968), made one of the priorities of his administration the creation of a new national flag free of British symbolism. It was a bitterly controversial topic, but eventually the Maple Leaf flag was officially proclaimed on 1 July 1965.

Manitoba and Ontario are the only two provinces that never partook in the craze for flag re-designing that swept the rest of Canada in the late 20th century. Both still use fairly generic-looking Red Ensigns as a result. The Manitoba flag features the province’s coat of arms, which bears a buffalo, the official provincial animal.

The Maritime provinces’ flags are all rich in British heraldic symbolism. The New Brunswick flag features a golden lion, representing England, and an old-fashioned sailing ship as a nod to the province’s historic status as a major centre of Maritime trade and ship-building.

The newest flag of any province, the flag of Newfoundland was drafted by a graphic design firm in 1980. It is a stylised Union Flag with the blue representing the sea and the white the frozen north. The other colours represent hope, pride and forward-thinking.

Very similar to the Yukon flag, the Northwest Territories flag features the NWT crest between two blue bars, representing the territory’s rivers, lakes and oceans. The crest itself features a white fox, a traditional animal of northern Canada.

The flag of Nova Scotia is similar to the Scottish saltire but with the colours reversed. It is the Cross of St Andrew, with the Nova Scotia coat of arms in the centre.

Nunavut is Canada’s newest territory and the Nunavut flag was created by a local artist in 1999. It features a red Inukshuk, a traditional stone formation made by the territory’s Native peoples. In the top right corner sits the North Star, another traditional symbol of northern Canada.

In 1965 Ontario Premier John Robarts designated the Ontario Red Ensign as his province’s official flag to help ensure that the Union Flag would continue to fly in Ontario. He was a stern critic of the new Maple Leaf. Like Manitoba’s flag, it features the Ontario coat of arms in the bottom-right corner.

Prince Edward Island’s flag is a stretched-out version of the provincial coat of arms. The lion and the big tree represent "mother England", while the three little trees represent the Island’s historic three counties.

In 1948 Quebec became the first province in Canada to create its own distinctive flag. It features the Fleur-de-lis and cross to evoke memories of the mediaeval banners of royal France.

Designed as part of a province-wide contest in 1969, the Saskatchewan flag displays a stylised depiction of the prairie province’s flat landscape, with the provincial crest in the top left corner and the provincial flower, the red lily, on the right.

Another contest-winner, the Yukon flag has the territorial coat of arms surrounded by a green bar, representing forests, and a blue bar representing rivers and lakes. The coat of arms features a malamute (an Inuit sled-dog) standing on a mound of snow. There is also the cross of St George and the wavy white lines represent the Yukon River and the gold-bearing creeks of the Klondike.

The New Testament records different aspects of the crucifixion and resurrection in all four gospels. But is there any proof that something so unusual really happened? Can we trust the Bible?

Skeptics sometimes suggest that the story of Jesus' resurrection is a legend, embellished over time. But how can it be legend when there are manuscripts which have been dated AD 70, just a few decades from the actual events? This is proof of authenticity because there were plenty of people still alive that could have contested the events as recorded. No ancient first century documents exist that contest anything written in those manuscripts. Additionally, there are more than 5,000 ancient New Testament Greek manuscripts that have been cataloged and another 19,000 copies in other languages. No other literary work comes close to that number. The closest is Homer's "Iliad" which has over 600 manuscripts that were penned 500 years after the original. Many other ancient documents have fewer than 50 copies and are over a century removed from the original. The more texts that are available, the more reliable the writings, because they can be cross-checked for accuracy. If the New Testament is regarded as unreliable, then so must all the other ancient writings, as there are far fewer of them in existence.

Other theories proposed by skeptics are that Jesus didn't really die or that His disciples stole the body after it was placed in the tomb and made up the story about His resurrection to keep Christianity alive. But that doesn't explain the account that the guards, obviously not followers of Jesus, confirmed he had died and took him down from the cross and allowed the women to prepare his body for burial; or that many of the followers of Jesus eventually gave up their own lives when presented with the opportunity to deny Jesus or die. Why would they do that for a lie they had supposedly made up?

It's not simply a matter of faith. There is much evidence that the Bible is authentic and reliable.
