Maple trees are common across the Northern Hemisphere, and the leaf has been adopted as the symbol of Canada. They are popular ornamental trees as during the autumn the leaves turn brilliant yellow, orange or even to bright red. The colour change is due to the breakdown of the green pigment chlorophyll, which masks the other colours for the rest of the year.

The Badlands in North Dakota in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park is not the same as the famous Badlands in South Dakota. The South Dakota Badlands have whiter clay, no vegetation to speak of, and is more rugged. North Dakota Badlands have prairie dogs, bison, wild horses, and a lot of vegetation.
Badlands is used to name any arid land with minimal vegetation and steep slopes with features such as buttes, hoodoos, ravines, and gullies. This type of terrain is created when soft sedimentary soil has been eroded. Badlands are found on every continent except Antarctica.

Upon a hill dressed with cedar, fir and spruce, overlooking a lake of blue, my pets and I walk the many trails in search of adventure. There are bears and cougars here, and we see evidence of their presence. We will rest awhile soon under one of the many trees.

The event that changed the world happened here over 2,000 years ago. Ancient prophets around 700 BC foretold of the birth of the Messiah, and it happened exactly as it was written. Here are a few of the prophecies that were fulfilled that holy night. First, the location of the birth was to be in Bethlehem according to Micah 5:2; second, that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David. The lineage of both Mary and Joseph (his earthly father) can be traced back to King David; third, the prophets foretold when the Messiah would come in the book of Daniel, and fourth, that Jesus was to be born of a virgin according to Isaiah 7:14. Anyone can make predictions. Having those prophecies fulfilled is vastly different. There are so many prophecies that it would be impossible for someone to decide to fulfill them all and to devise a plan to pretend to be the Messiah. What is the likelihood of predicting the specific date of the appearance of some great future leader, hundreds of years in advance? How does someone "arrange" to be born in a specific family? How does one "arrange" to be born in a specified city, in which their parents don't actually live? Believing in the story of Jesus' birth and subsequent life does not require blind faith. There are many logical arguments that corroborate the story as it unfolds in the Bible and other historical books.

This picturesque little farm was settled in 1835 by ancestors of the AKC Best in Show champion Scottish Terrier, Sadie. Each province and territory in Canada has its own flag. Like the Maple Leaf, most are fairly recent creations, often the result of contests or committees held during the 1960s and 1970s, when many provinces were getting ready to celebrate their centennial anniversaries.
