When dolphins are swimming, they often jump out of the water. They do this to save energy while travelling as there is less friction on their bodies when they are in the air. This type of travel is called porpoising. Other reasons dolphins leap out of the water are to dislodge parasites or just for the sheer fun of it. It definitely looks fun to me... I wish I could do it!

The wind is raging at 50 knots/hour, whipping the ocean into foaming 10-meter waves. Lightning flashes across the horizon, accompanied by deafening thunderous timpani. Heavy rain is falling, and tree branches are breaking as the gale hits shore. Close your shutters, stay indoors, and pray that no boats are out on the water.

Rocky promontories jut out into the rushing river, constricting the flow of water into roaring rapids. Courageous extreme adventurers don helmets and life jackets to experience the thrill of white water rafting. The rest of us will enjoy the beauty of these invigorating rapids from the shore.

On a warm sunny day, without a cloud in the sky, the sea is a plane of shimmering glass. The slightest hint of a breeze begins to blow, coaxing the slumbering ocean into gentle lapping waves. What perfect weather for kayaking and canoeing.
