The only family Scarlett had in all the world was her elderly grandmother, who worked on creating Ruby Ragdoll. And cold! Did I mention I like cold? I am a harp seal, and my scientific name actually means, “ice-lover from Greenland.” My coat is white, as I am still a baby. But I like color. Do you like color? I love to play too! Will you play with me? As you can probably tell, I’m an excited little seal. Mama says I am full of energy, and I spend much of my time burning off my energy by sunbathing and sliding on the ice. Sometimes all my energy annoys Mama, and she’s constantly telling me that “I am lucky I am cute!” whatever that means. But today I am excited because it’s almost CHRISTMAS! Mama says I can pick my very own block of ice to decorate! I’ve been carefully inspecting them all, looking for the perfect one to hang these colorful lights! They are just so pretty and I can’t help but play around in them, even if I do end up a tiny bit tangled. It’s okay, I’m a master at untangling myself! Ooh! Look at that one over there! If we hurry, we can slide along the ice and beat any other seals that might want to claim that block of ice for themselves! I’ll race you, are you ready? Ready, set, GO! Merry Christmas!

The story of the Reindeer Mouse is seldom mentioned in the North Pole community because, truth be told, it is quite an embarrassment. The little mouse was employed for many years as a custodian that disposed of scraps and scrubbed the floors in Santa’s toy workshop. It was a humble, hidden job. Every year, the little mouse would hear of songs, thank-you gifts, movies, and poems that honoured the work of Santa, Mrs. Claus, the elves, and the reindeer; but not once did anyone ever offer a gesture of thanks for the mouse that kept the floors clean. The little mouse didn’t mind the lack of honour and praise because in his own heart he knew that his work was important. He knew that, without him, children would get dirty, stained toys on Christmas morning. Thus, many years passed, and the good-hearted little mouse cleaned floors, rewarded only with the thought of making children all around the world happy. The little mouse’s life was changed forever the night that Aubrey, the project manager of the elf team that built remote control cars and planes, got into Santa’s secret stash of Ho Ho Ho cocktails. Nobody knows for sure exactly how many Ho Ho Hos Aubrey drank, but several witnesses saw him stagger into the toy workshop and knock an entire barrel of reindeer dust onto the little mouse who was cleaning the floors – so much dust that the mouse was completely buried in it. When the elves dug him out of the mound of reindeer dust, they were shocked to see that the mouse had begun to grow antlers and his nose turned red. Shock turned to awe when the little mouse started flying around the toy workshop. By the time Santa arrived on the scene, the traumatized Reindeer Mouse was flying outside in the snow with fully grown antlers. Santa tried, but he was not able to reverse the effects of the spill because of the large volume of reindeer dust the mouse had been exposed to. Needless to say, Aubrey was removed from his position as project manager of remote control and sent to rehabilitation. When he came back from rehab, Aubrey was assigned a new job: cleaning the toy workshop floors. In time, the little mouse adjusted to his metamorphosis. Santa crafted a miniature sleigh and gave Reindeer Mouse an exciting new job: delivering Christmas gifts to the children of small creatures like birds, squirrels, rabbits, and mice. Reindeer Mouse flies too fast for you to see him or his sleigh, but you will probably catch a glance of the many thank-you gifts left for him outside burrows or on trees.
