I crawled out of this nice comfortable cocoon, because it was getting a bit warm in there, and ever since then my life has been filled with purpose every waking hour. Busy busy busy! But I swear I don’t remember being a caterpillar. That’s just not possible. They are so gross! But I do like those bushes they crawl all over. They look like a great place to lay my eggs! What happens to eggs, again? I just like leaving them everywhere.

I may be rather boring to look at, and I’m rather sturdy rather than sleek like my horse cousins. But I had the most important job! One night, through the sandy soil and rock strewn road, I carried on my sturdy back, a very pregnant and very weary young woman. It was an honor to tote her along, and her husband was so kind to me and fed me carrots! I sensed somehow that I was helping out someone very special, although you’d never know by looking at them. And ever since then, I have enjoyed my labors of carrying any burden strapped on my back, because on one special night, I was touched by love.

I come into your dreams—violet wings carry me dancing and twirling in graceful arcs—under and over the silver clouds. Flashes of white from the eyes on my wings reflect back the moon’s soft glow. I will dance until the night wanes and wish you pleasant dreams. When you awake, you wonder if you really saw me or if it was truly a dream. Perhaps you may find some violet dust left behind on your pillow.

The grey-blue coat and various blues of the mane and feathers make this pegasus stand apart, having gained them from lifetimes of living high in the sky in the storm clouds. All pets know when they see these creatures in the sky a storm is fast approaching.

Aw, don’t be coy; I am certainly not coy, though I am a spotted koi; more specifically, I am a member of the Amur carp family. I am said to bring good luck and fortune. I do feel lucky with my wonderful orange body and black spots. I am an outstanding fish to gaze upon-- don’t you think? Do you feel fortunate to have been able to spend some time with me?

A cat may fiddle, perfectly sensible. A cow may jump over a moon, or try to, certainly within the realms of possibilities, think about the moon’s reflection in a body of water. But what is that about spoons and dishes making a run for it? I have it from the best authority that this does happen occasionally.
The story goes; the cook was making a lot of food for a banquet—this is long ago when banquet was the fancy term for a huge dinner party. The spoon and the dish had been talking; they were tired of working so hard. The spoon, was in constant use, stirring, beating, whipping, and folding, day in and day out. The dish was laden with food all the time and never had a moment to rest, except for that brief period of time, after being washed up and set upon a shelf. That only lasted until the next meal, and in such a large house with so many people and pets to be fed, the next meal was only a few hours away.
Seeing a chance, the dish grabbed the spoon up, and they raced out of the kitchen, out of the side door, over the fields, and far away. No one knows where they ended up.

Good morning. I am papa bear. Mama bear and baby bear make up the rest of my family. We have lived in this house for a long time. We went through a bit of bother a year ago. There was a child who would come in—first thing in the morning, when we had gone out for a walk—eat our porridge, sit in our chairs, and sleep in our beds. We, as a bear family, found that quite rude.
One morning, I decided to teach this child how to make their own porridge. The child was very happy to learn how to cook, and now that child and baby bear are great friends.
I smell something delicious; mama bear may be cooking something tasty shall we go see?

Good morning dear. Please come in; your nose brought you here. Today I made peanut butter cookies. We take turns cooking, and I know how much baby bear loves peanut butter cookies. Sit down, and I will get you a plate of cookies and some honey tea.
That chair, you noticed the mismatched leg; yes, that poor chair had an accident. Someone too big for it sat in it and broke one of the legs. I fixed it up, but the wood needs to age to match the other legs.
I hear baby bear coming down the stairs. I knew it would not take long for baby bear to smell the cookies baking.

I am sure you are familiar with penguins. But I imagine you have never seen a penguin like me before.
I am a laser penguin. What does that mean? I am made from the captured light beams emitted when a laser fires. I don’t know the magic behind the process, as I am not really into spacey stuff—but I love how the colours swirl and dance over my body.

MMmmm, there is nothing better than soaking up the sun! It takes a paint roller and a bucket of sunscreen to get ready, and it's worth it! Just settle down and take a nap, and be at peace with the beach.

I"m ready for the PetsIllustrated Bikini Contest, strut my fashionplate self right down the runway. After the show, I can dip into the pool, just wait until you see my cannon ball!

Oooh, do you hear that? Sun, fun and surf! I brought my Boombox, loading up my favorite play list and now we party on the sand! Later tonight we'll load up the fire pit and light a bonfire, dancing in the moonlight!

I have been living my froggy life in this garden, and a lovely garden it is too, with a pond and many shady spots filled with fragrant flowers.

I like to sit on a lily pad and see how many flies I can catch. I don’t need to drink water; I absorb water through my skin, so a dip in the pond now and then is most refreshing.
I feel a froggy song coming on; would you join me in singing?

Perhaps you would be so kind as to take me home with you or perhaps light a campfire. It’s a little chilly with no flesh on. Did you know that? But I can still be friendly and wave.

Hey! Come on! You want to see the lights, right? What lights? Oh, the lights that humans have been putting on the cactus. I am so excited to see them. We may not get snow here in the desert, but it does get cold, and the sky is amazing during the night.
Every year around this time, humans put strings of lights on the cactus; it is all so magical. Jump up on my back and hang on. Here we go!

It can take me a few minutes to gather them up—so they are going in the same direction. I am pleased to meet you. I am trying to learn new dance steps; someone said dancing brings joy. It is also a great way to train your legs to find the beat. Dancing can help with balance, too. I need help in that department.

Everyone has heard of a bear hug, right, but have you ever had a panther hug? I am a great hugger and I promise that you will never think of that silly old bear again once you've been hugged by me! Not only do I give great hugs, but a panther hug also comes with the wonderful sound of purring! I promise that once you've experienced one of my hugs, all of your and sadness and stress will disappear! Not only will it be beneficial to you, it will also make me happy too, so don't be shy! Well hello there! I'm a very friendly little panther and I would love to play with you! Do you have one of those little feather toys? I hope so... I go crazy for those! It reminds me of the colorful birdies that fly overhead, darting to and fro to tease me. I just want to play with them, but I have never been able to catch one! My other favorite toy is a soft stuffed mousie. I love to roll on the ground and toss it around and pounce on it and bite it. Don't worry, I would never bite a real mousie; I'm just exercising to stay healthy! Besides, my mum has tried to teach me to be kind to all other creatures. I can play with just about anything, it really doesn't matter. All that matters is that you love me and snuggle with me and take care of me. If you do that I will love you forever!

Shhhh! I have a secret! Just for you, come closer! *Whispers* Did you know that the best way to get extra treats is to simply bat your lashes, and cock your head ever so slightly? Watch me! It's magical! Oh, that treat was my favorite, worked beautifully! Your turn! It also works on getting me out of walks! Why, who wants to ruin perfectly groomed nails and fur? It's a diva life for me! I just plop down, simper a little and, just like that, I get picked up and carried! Although I must admit, the hoomans are not as excited about my fresh mowed grass obsession as me. I don't know why, they color their fur all the time. Ugh. What's a little green among friends? But I suppose the upside is that I can get another spa day out of it. I am a unique little reptile. My skin can change colours for many reasons; my emotions, the temperature, and the amount of light available, but it is a common misconception that it changes colour based on my surroundings. The brighter my colour, the more attractive I am (sorry, I'm cute and I know it... and you know it too!). My tail is great for wrapping around the branches of trees and bushes to steady myself as I wander throughout the rainforests and savannahs I live in, but if you don't mind, I can also wrap it around your heart and be your forever friend.

But just below the surface of the sand, a tiny turtle is struggling to escape the leathery shell that's protected it for many months. The warm sun is calling, and the sound of the surf guides the hatchling as it makes its way upward, toward warmth, and light, and adventure! Other hatchlings on other shores must face deadly peril as they race to the safety of the water, but here on the PnF Sea, the tiny creature is greeted with delight. Making friends on its way, the blue - green babe heads for the sea, and home.

Bertrand is both the youngest and the quietest Pet in class! At first, Bertrand’s parents were worried about sending him off to school, because they feared his bookish ways might make him a target for bullies. But if Bertrand was ever bullied, he didn’t notice it, as he was too thoroughly engrossed in all of the new reading matter school had to offer! Bertrand can always be found in the school library, before and after school, and during breaks. And Bertrand does need to be found quite regularly, as he loses all track of time and place in the wonder of the books his school has to offer!

Despite the constant crowds, I try my best to ignore them all when it's time for my bihourly swim. Thankfully other pets don't seem to mind and give me a wide berth without even asking! They're so considerate. I'll have to find a way to thank them. Maybe I could invite them over for dinner...

Aww, you really love me. Since you do, I will let you in on a little secret. Those black jelly beans? And chocolate chips and PB balls you see scattered around? You know the ones I mean. Whatever you do, DO NOT EAT THEM! We bunnies like to fool people at this time of year, but really they make better fertilizer for your garden than yummies for your tummy.

The pink and purple flowers get all the attention, but I'm here to share my favourite flower with you! I don't know what it's called, but they grow in the field behind my house. Rows and rows of aqua flowers to run through! Mom tells me I should slow down so their pollen doesn't stain my coat, but look how good I look in it!

Eek! A mouse! There's a mouse in the house! Quick! Run! Oh wait...that's just my reflection in the mirror!

I'll make a deal with you. Give me a nice home like those hamsters are getting, and I won't gnaw my way through your walls. Is that fair? Please don't leave me alone outside, as there are lots of animals that would like to eat me!

Just make sure my living space is clean, and provide me with food, and I'll provide you with all the love you need! But if you don't like that idea, I'll just live inside your walls and eat things when you least expect it. Come on, isn't it better to fuss over me than chase after me?

Extinct, you say? I don't feel extinct. You might want to rethink that theory. Surely you're mistaken. I may be old, but I'm no fossil, that I can assure you, my friend. Make no bones about it. But no worries, I'm a gentle giant. If you let me stay with you, I promise not to step on you, your house, or anything important. And I promise not to eat your garden. That one neighbor you don't like...their hydrangea bushes are fair game, though, right? Right? *chomp chomp chomp*

Hisssss! Rattle! Rattle! If those sounds strike fear in your heart, think again. Rattle Paddle Snake is not a poisonous predator, and he does not bite with venomous fangs. He lives in tropical seas, not deserts; and he eats fresh fruit, not other animals. Who would want to do something so disgusting? No matter how many charities he contributes to or how many pets he helps, poor Rattle Paddle Snake still finds himself guilty by association. He is studying to become an ophidiophobia therapist in hopes that others will love him instead of fear him.

Rattle Paddle Snake is quite an accomplished reptile. Using his long sinuous tail for water propulsion, he has won many swimming races. His underground lair is lined with shelves and shelves of swim tournament trophies, and he has started to coach young aquatic animals in racing techniques. However, Rattle Paddle Snake is most proud of his skill as a percussionist. His versatile rattle can generate many beats and sounds, which make him much sought after as a jazz drummer. His latest band, The Splashing Serpents, plays nightly at beach-front clubs.

Rattle Paddle Snake invites you to join him at the pool for a refreshing bowl of fruit salad and a cool drink. He makes the best fruit salad you have ever tasted because he climbs trees in search of rare tropical fruits and picks them at the peak of ripeness. Want to go for a swim? Abominable Snowman, Bigfoot, and Yeti - these are just many names people have called me throughout my life. These sound like all scary names to me, which makes sense, as other creatures seem to shake in fear when I am present. I mostly hang out in the Himalayan regions, and do my best to stay hidden. My coat is as white as the snow around me, helping me hide my massive body from strangers. Many claim to have seen me, yet I make sure that there is no definitive proof that I exist. You see, I am a bit camera shy. Because so many creatures have repeatedly shown that they are scared of me, I have begun to think I am ugly, and therefore make sure I stay away from photographs. Living beings do strange things when they are scared, and I do not want to be harmed by someone scared of me.

Something I like to do for entertainment, is dance. What, you've never seen a large, white furry creature dance before? Because I live in the snow, I do not have to be graceful. The snow coats my thunderous steps, allowing me to twist and twirl silently. If I happen to fall, I land into nature’s soft, white, wet and cold cushion of the snow. When I am not dancing, I am walking through the land, searching for another being like me. I am lonely, and I would love to find another living being identical to me, so that I have a dance partner. I cannot be the only one like me in the world. I know that I am good at hiding, so any other creature such as I, would most likely be good at camouflage too, especially if they are white like me. I know I am large, and I also have a lot of patience. One day, I will find my dance partner. And on that day, I will embrace the world, allowing all to see me, no longer blending in with the universe around me. But until then, I will remain a mystery, known only to those who have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of me. Dance on, my friends, dance on.

Let me be upfront - don't believe anything those shooting stars tell you. They are out to make themselves look good and will slander me to do so!

What? Missing fruit? Spilled milk? Paint pawprints staining the ceiling? I had nothing to do with any of those. I am as innocent as can be - just look at my face! Do I look like a troublemaker to you?

I think today is going to be a good day! I have a whole list of things I want to do today... First a stop by the neighbour's bird feeder, then the birdbath in the park. Then for lunch maybe eat half of half a dozen apples and dig up some flower bulbs. For laughs I'll sneak into my cousin's room and tangle up their ear bud wires... And after dinner maybe go torment the llamas the next town over.

What was that? There's a piece of pie missing from the center of the pie dish? I don't know who could have possibly done a thing like that! Me? I don't even like pecan pie! What kind of squirrel likes those types of nuts? There's a piece missing from the derby pie too? Nope, wasn't me! I'm not hiding anything, I swear!

Ohh, did you feel that? I think the storm is directly over us! This is my favourite part, it's both lovely and dangerous! Feel that thunder roar - mightier than even the most fearsome feline. And the lightning, sneakier than the sliest fox! Don't worry, here in my burrow we're well safe from any harm.

Shall we salsa? Tango? Bachata? Perhaps a waltz? Or, do you prefer hip hop? Whatever music tickles your toes, I’ve got the flow and I’m ready to go. Let’s dance, celebrate, and have a good time! All night long… Oh, yeah!

What is that pinging sound? Is somebody texting you? No, it is Mimetic Macaw imitating the sound of your cell phone. In the rainforest, he mimics other birds and animals for his amusement. Imagine the confusion when jungle creatures hear a monkey squawk, a bird growl, or a fish purr. Mimetic Macaw watches the chaos from his perch high in a tree and chuckles. This multi-hued parrot is so intelligent that, if he has nothing to do, he will surely get into mischief.

Fortunately for all of his neighbours, Mimetic Macaw has turned his attention to inventing. His clever mind is always thinking of ways to make life easier for rainforest inhabitants. His sharp beak and deft claws enable him to turn his ideas into prototype products, such as a canopy lift for injured or ailing pets, a fleet of miniature sailing boats adapted for small animals, and a lattice of liana vines fashioned into a fishing weir. Rainforest animals are so appreciative of Mimetic Macaw’s brilliant inventions that they have almost forgiven him for his mimicry tricks. Almost.

I’m round, two rounds in fact and cute as a button, made with fresh snow and bits and bobs that no one is using. I don’t know what brought me to life; was it the toque placed upon my head? Perhaps it was just the love that was put into creating me.

If there is snow, there will be snowpeople; it is a law of the universe. Pets and people cannot resist taking a small handful of snow and rolling it on the snow-covered ground to see how big a snowball they can make. Once that is done, the next step is to add a face and a scarf or hat.

With such a variety of snowmen, there are endless possibilities for stories and play. Enjoy the season with a snow family in your yard, but don’t try to bring them inside.

Plopping down after a wild night howling at the moon, I need a rest! Since the intense desert heat in the day is far too much to do anything in, it’s much nicer to nap with friends during, the hot heat. So when visitors come by, it’s best to come when the moon is high!

My sibling may enjoy watching the sun rise, but sunset is my favourite time of day. The glow the fading light gives the plants in our field is breathtaking.
