You can feel the hush as two deer pose in a snowy meadow in the dark-blue dusk of a winter's day.

A picture that conjures up winter, with its bare trees, shorn of leaves, waiting patiently in the snow for the spring, when the cycle of life begins again.

A discarded masquerade mask sits amongst streamers. It sure was a fun party. The costumes were brilliant. Some pets were able to guess who was behind the masks. Other pets remained mystified until the end of the evening.

It would be magical; you would feel as though you had been transported into a story. Would you walk up to the door and knock? Would you be tempted to nibble a corner of a gingerbread wall? The leaves that once covered the branches of these trees left many weeks ago. Standing silent and still, the trees await their new covering. As snow falls and accumulates, the trees take on a new look; the forest glows with soft light.

AROOOOOO!!!!!!!! You hear the sound of a howl far in the distance…and then the sound of something that sounds like a howl but isn’t quite right. The scent of pine trees fills the air and a fresh coat of snow is on the ground. It’s the perfect weather for sled riding. Husky dog teams are often seen on these hills, pulling the sleds behind them. But today, a little husky puppy frolics in the snow, much more interested in playing than watching his elders pull a sled. He is too tiny to help but not too small to watch. He tilts his head to the right as he listens to the adults use their vocal cords. He tries to do the same and that is the sound you hear. The sky is overcast and more snow threatens to fall. Yet, you can’t help smile at the sound of a young puppy attempting to howl into the sky. You know that one day, that puppy will grow big and strong, and it will be he that you see pulling the big dog sleds.

All is still and quiet, and the light is beginning to fade, on this cold and lonely late afternoon. Winter has arrived. The landscape is blanketed in snow. The endless white is broken only by fir trees, which are soon to be some Pets’ Christmas trees… But where are the Pets? Could they really miss Christmas altogether, because they’ve snuggled down to sleep through the winter?

As dawn breaks on Bigfoot Mountain, the snow gives way to clear crisp air. No wind lifts the fallen snow, no bird is on the wing, and no soul stirs on the lonely desolate mountaintop. The trees in the valley watch on, knowing that the mountain will run with fresh streams, if springtime should ever come to this valley…

It is nearing the end of autumn. The first snow had fallen weeks ago on grass that has been slowly dying. The lake began to freeze a month ago and the ice is almost thick enough for the yeti to stand on. Until then, he sits by the lake, enjoying the sounds of nature all around him. He hears big snowballs falling from the mountain in the distance. The sound of deer playing on the hardened ground is much closer and he smiles at the thought of the fun they are having. The deer are his friends, as are most creatures here by the mountain lake, as they are not afraid of his big stature because they know he is a gentle giant. Birds fly in and out of the trees, preparing nests to keep them warm in the upcoming winter. The yeti enjoys the songs they sing. There is a faint hint of water moving far below the ice and it adds a background melody to the birds’ songs. He is excited, as winter is coming which is his favorite time of year. So he sits and waits amongst natures finest creatures, waiting for the world to turn purely white.

The water gently rustles under a thin sheet of ice covering the lake. Snow is thick on the mountains and rests gently on the lake. All is silent except for the trickling of water you hear in the distance. Not even the birds are chirping, as they are only just beginning to wake up from the winter freeze. The ground is free of white cotton snow, yet hard under your feet from the crisp temperature. It is always chilly here in the mountains, yet the animals are glad that spring is coming. The Yeti watches from high up on the mountain, wondering how much longer it will be until he can swim. He likes to swim almost as much as he likes to dance. But for now, he will be patient and sit silently enjoying the sound of the lake slowly coming back to life.

The yeti admires the blanket of white that is on the mountains. This is his favorite time of year, though he knows not all of his mountainous friends enjoy the bitter cold. He was made for this type of weather. It is the morning after a heavy snowfall and all is white in his world. Yeti approaches the frozen lake, excited that it is the dead of winter and the water is now so thick and solid, that it can support his weight. It is time for dance. The iced lake becomes his dance floor where he can glide smoothly and effortlessly around the frozen body of water. He dances with passion, with love, hoping beyond hopes that his true love is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be found. He twirls and glides along the ice feeling free and at peace, just like the peaceful world surrounding him.

As nightfall closes in, and the lands below cool rapidly, majestic birds of pray hover silently over the Bigfoot Twilight Mountaintop. For they love catching the last updrafts of the day, before returning to their roosts in these lonely peaks, to tuck their young in for another long cold night…

As dawn breaks across the mountaintop, the land below slowly begins to warm. But the nocturnal mountain Pets are already safely tucked away in their caves and burrows. For they know only too well, that the majestic mountaintop birds of prey have been silently waiting, and are ready to catch the first updrafts of the day…

As dawn breaks over the mountain ridge, wind buffets the peaks, swirling powdery snow into the air. As the wind whistles through crevices and cracks in the ice, time appears to have been frozen on this desolate and lonely ridge, as nothing grows and not a single creature stirs…

As the nocturnal pets return to their burrows, caves and crevices in the rock, passing out food to their young, the diurnal pets begin to stir; peaking outside then retreating back inside their warm homes. However, the littlest pets are already slipping into their snow shoes, hot chocolate forgotten by the fire, and bundling up home made quilts to rap around mama and papa in the sled, anxious to get outside to watch the pet competitors out practicing for the WINTER PET GAMES!

Silver Mountains Parklands nestles on a perpetually frozen lake in a sheltered plateau near the peak of the majestic Silver Mountains. The rarefied air around the mountain peaks ensures the lake remains frozen all year around, and regular light snowfall provides a powder coating that is comfortable to walk on and fun to play in! The Parklands is an ideal location for cosy pet chalet weekenders, pet family sled rides, snowball fights, evening fires on the ice, and for the WINTER PET GAMES…

It’s the early morning after a big snowfall. There is just a white blanket of snow on the ground, still undisturbed by woodland creatures. The sky is blue and the trees are green with white snow hanging from their branches. The cottage lies in the middle of the woods, peaceful like the rest of the world. A trail leads from the cottage door into the abyss…or is the trail leading to the cottage from the abyss? Either way, it’s definitely warmer inside the tiny house than it is outside. The cottage sits still, housing warmth to whomever is inside, waiting patiently for the rest of the world to wake up and join it in the new day.

Santa looks out his window at the vast canopy of the heavens stretched out over the frozen tundra. Trillions of glittering jewels illuminate the sky, pinpoints of sparkling light that have travelled for millions of years to reach his eyes. Is it any wonder that he chooses to live at the North Pole?
