While Eliza soaked in the view, Mullet was searching his backpack for the bug spray, certain that his fur would be crawling with little biting critters once the sun went down!

It's at night when some plants and flowers give off their most intense scent, or perhaps it's also that after the air has cleared from the clamour of the day, we have more chance of detecting their perfume. Breathing deeply in a pine forest has proven benefits to the lungs!

Have you ever felt a sense of joy as you stand next to an awe-inspiring waterfall? It is said that waterfalls can make us happy. Even though some might dismiss this as an old pets’ tale, there does seem to be some scientific thinking behind the theory that waterfalls generate positive vibes. Waterfalls are considered to be one giant ion generator— the watery downpour gives off negative ions, which we take in as positive energy. Once the negative ions reach our bloodstream, they are said to increase our bodies’ production of serotonin, which is the chemical responsible for relieving stress and depression, and for boosting our energy and happiness. So it’s not surprising we might feel so great when we’re around waterfalls!

While Eliza was whistling through her teeth as they ambled through another breathtaking scene, Pixie was secretly wishing she had packed ear plugs, or gaffer tape for Eliza's mug!

Eliza gazed around in awe, while Jinx mumbled and grumbled about Eliza's shortcut being no shortcut at all, if the blisters on his paws were anything to go by!

Don't you just wish you were here? A beautiful river with exciting twists and turns, pine trees varying in colour from dark green to gold, rocky outcrops and distant conifer-clad peaks conspire to make this the most delightful of spots!

While Eliza normally avoids tourist hotspots, she is glad she allowed Paradiddle to bring her here!

Rumour has it that the lake is bottomless. Others say an underground passage links it to the nearby Galloway Falls. Perhaps a visiting pet might see an arm protruding from the lake brandishing a sword! Take care, furry or feathery ones ...

One of the benefits of being on an island is having the glorious sea all around. Whatever its changing face, according to the weather, we are reminded of its constant energy at all times as waves crash onto the shore and draw back, dragging a myriad pebbles and shells in their wake.

@ Island: Alcona
Eliza finally makes it back to the landing stage, where Ari is also about to embark and go home. What an adventure it has been! Eliza pockets a map of Alcona as a momento. The guidebook says:

From its sandy landing cove the pets have a stimulating journey on their mystery tour round Alcona. Rivers and waterfalls, mountains and trees, there's something for everypet, including seeing a quirky hedge as they approach the stepping stones ready to board their boat again!
