The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

If I played basketball, I would be a first draft pick! My amazing height, er, length would give me superior dribbling and blocking skills, but here I am, living my dream instead, searching the plains for anthills!

“Did you see what happened to Foxy earlier, Clarice?” exclaimed Dorothy. "He was balancing on a log trying to take a selfie with one of the critters we met, and it rolled over and pitched him into a bank of nettles!"
Clarice joined in Dorothy's heartless laughter. “He was still brushing bits of nettle out of his fur when we went for lunch!”

Whoot studied the itinerary thoughtfully for some time. “There's a lion-tailed macaque and a lion-headed goldfish,” she remarked. “Do you think there's a lion-tummied creature that we'll meet?”
Dorothy snorted. "That's you, judging by how you're packing away that popcorn, Whoot!"

Flopsy groaned, clutching her stomach. "Oh, my poor tum. Why are so many of these places only accessible by boat? I've never been a good sailor, you know."
"Never mind, Flopsy," sympathised Dorothy. "It's ages till we set off back, and with lots of walking around visiting the different creatures, you'll feel as right as rain in no time!"

Dorothy and midnught had shaken paws and were now introducing themselves to the next critter who had come to meet them on this leg of the quest, who was eager to make friends and to show off a carefully tidied natural habitat!

Dorothy and Lucky agreed that the variety of environments on their expedition was the best ever! Dorothy and Lucky exchanged opinions on which their favourite terrain had been so far, and which was the most interesting creature they had met in their travels!

“Great to see you again, Trix!” cried Dorothy. “I don't think we've met since we bumped into each other in Canada this time last year. This is quite a different excursion, isn't it?”

Well, not just an ordinary cicada, I'm a Canthgaster Cicada! Look at me with my nose in the air, why, some might think I'm a bit stuffy! But honestly, I'm just following my nose to the best eating spots!

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, Dorothy!” said Isabella. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
Dorothy good-naturedly took charge of Isabella's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then Dorothy helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

“I'm starving!” exclaimed Dorothy. "What's Chef making us tonight?"
Starlight glanced up from her tour guide, in which she had been looking up where they were going the next day. “How come you're so hungry, Dorothy?”
Dorothy pouted. "I was just unwrapping my lunch pack when a creature ran down the tree behind me, grabbed the lot and shot back up the tree!"
"Bad luck!" sympathised Starlight. "Here, have a banana to keep you going."

Golden Pheasant
My brilliant plumage has also earned me the nickname of Rainbow Pheasant, and my gorgeous array of feathers originally hailed from China, but you'll find that we were a desired export, and have adapted well to other places!

Nocturnal by nature, you'll find me hiding by day in the dark leafy greens in your garden. We tried to ramp up our street cred by saying we were vampires, but we lacked the fangs to back up the claim.

Valley Between the Hills
The hidden valley between these hills is a popular locale for the smaller pets of PnF. Housing a city most pets overlook, the tiny prints of pets have made history with the largest tiny museum, art gallery, and comedy club in existence.

Dorothy has enjoyed meeting "Exotic" pets, but it is time to go home now! All Creatures Great and Small is over now, but there will be more events in PnF soon!
