As soon as Dorothy could fly, she began trying to find other dragons. She travelled to places named after them, such as Gaztelugatxe, Spain, where there is a Rock Dragon. No real dragons were there; just a church on the top.

Dorothy went back to Spain and visited Dragon Island. But it seemed places had been named after dragons long ago. Then the dragons had all gone away, but their names remained. So Dorothy gave up looking for real dragons, and went home to Wales.

Bhutan has a dragon on its flag, so Dorothy searched there. Apparently people in Bhutan had known about dragons long ago and still remembered them. But there was not much art for her to see there that had been made recently.

Dorothy had high hopes of learning about her kin at the Chinese New Year Dragon Dance in Mauritius. But all the dragons were just costumes with people inside them. This told her people thought dragons were important, but costumes for humans could not look much like a real dragon.

Dorothy heard China was the best place for dragons. She found a huge dragon sculpture. This must be what people thought dragons had looked like. But Chinese dragons might not be much like Welsh ones. Perhaps they were as different as Chinese and Welsh people are? All those coils!

Near the sculpture Dorothy found a fairground where humans could ride on a beautiful model of a dragon. But this one was nothing like the sculpture. Either individual dragons must be very different, or these people were just guessing what they looked like.

Now Dorothy was beginning to run out of well-known dragon art and was having to peek in the less well-known and least hopeful areas. In Nepal, she found a stone carving which looked like it worked for the humans as a guard dragon.

In Sri Lanka, Dorothy found a brass casting set in stone. It looked like a hippo with a frill. Ugh! Surely dragons had never looked like this? She decided to go home to Europe and see if Western art depicted dragons which looked more like her.

Oh, wonders! In Ljubljana, Slovenia, Dorothy at last found dragon art which really looked like her! So powerful, so majestic ... four legs, two wings and an elegant neck. This was how Dorothy would like to be depicted! But if there had once been dragons which looked like her, where did they all go?

As she travelled home to Wales, Dorothy stopped in London to look for sculptures there. Beside this one was a copy of the legend of St George. Had George killed all the dragons? What had they done to him? Perhaps St George killed all but a very few who hid in Welsh mountains?

Dorothy went to a museum where she saw a sculpture of a sad dragon. She felt just as sad. The only thing which could cheer her up would be flying off to strange new lands. Then Dorothy realised she had found her calling in life; to be an explorer!
