The litter were named in alphabetic order, oldest to youngest. Jolie was given a name beginning with J because it kept things simple, not because anyone cared. Her mother had a name beginning with B ... but it wasn't a nice name.

Jolie was so lonely she sat on her haunches and howled, hoping some other dogs would hear her. The humans threw things at her when she howled. The things they threw were very good for chewing on.

Soon Jolie was chewing everything when she wasn't howling. When the howling didn't stop, the neighbours told Jolie's owners she was a bad dog who kept them up all night.

Jolie's owners took her to a place with lots of other dogs, each with its own cage. She had one of her own. She still howled, but now nobody threw anything. She could see other dogs, but she could not lick them or lie down with them.

Jolie's man stopped to let the dogs talk, though he did not understand them. Jolie was puzzled, so she asked her own question. "Does your owner spend all his time with you every day?" she asked. "Does he talk to you all the time and tell you he loves you?"

Now the other dog looked confused. "Of course not!" she replied. "My owner has a job and a car. He drives away in the morning and leaves me alone until evening. Whatever he does pays for nice chew toys and a pretty basket."

Jolie knows her man loves her, and she loves him. So she cares for all the unloved creatures she meets. If she should ever lose her man, she will carry on loving, because once upon a time, she was greatly loved. Every time she loves another creature, the love her man once gave her will be real again inside.
Rhapsody has enjoyed meeting Jolie, but it is time to go home. This Event is over now, but there will be more events in PnF soon!
