@ Dashing Through the Snow
Hammss and Coffee have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Ski & Skate
Today's trip is on a modern train with spacious seats and large windows to enjoy the passing winter scenery. The train's first stop by a frozen lake allows the pets the opportunity to stretch their legs with a little skating! Let's hope there are no frozen paws from this adventure! The trip then proceeds to skiing grounds with steep snowy slopes, cable cars, chair lifts and an Olympic ski jump! The pets can also turn their paws to snowboarding if they wish. The pets will meet a cute little critter also trying to ski. Back on board the train at the end of an action-packed day, the pets will have the thrill of seeing the Northern Lights as they travel home in the setting sun to that night's lodging. There they will enjoy a warming milky coffee and a bowl of hot soup by the wood-burning stove in the dining room, while admiring the snowy scene outside.
Dashing Through the Snow
While an aeroplane might get you to your final destination more quickly and efficiently, nothing can surpass the romance and sightseeing opportunities of a journey by train. Just try to make sure you get a window seat to capture the breath-taking views of snowy peaks!

“You know how some pets spend weekends at special old steam engine stations where they can volunteer to be a ticket collector or the guard, the firepet or even the driver? You don't get that with modern railways, do you?" said Violet.
Hammss pondered for a while. "Well, no," she conceded. "I can't say that modern trains have the same romance attached to them."

Cold, bracing snowy weather is grand in theory. However, if your paws start to go numb and the chill creeps its way through your fur, it can start to lose its attraction. The answer is a train journey, where you can look out across sweeping white vistas or forests of trees lightly trimmed with snow, without having to get your scarf on!

Hammss opened her rucksack to find her hat. Olivia Anna could see Hammss had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Olivia Anna asked Hammss.

Nowadays rinks of artificial ice are commonplace in all countries. In former times skating could only be enjoyed when the weather was cold enough to freeze a lake or river to thick ice, allowing skaters to enjoy a game of curling or ice hockey or just enjoy pirouetting on the chilly, frozen surface!

Hammss and FiFi had shaken paws and took some time to enjoy the super view in a companionable silence!

“It's embarrassing to be staggering round the skating rink trying to get used to the boots and a young lemur sails past doing a pirouette, Miss Tan," grumbled Hammss.

Being in the mountains has a huge benefit on both our physical and mental health. Skiers will talk about the adrenalin rush of the slopes but also the pleasure gained from being in nature and having social interaction. Beyond the physical benefits, exposure to the natural surroundings of the mountains during exercise appears to provide an additional boost to our psychological well-being and aids in recovering from stress.

After a tiring but exhilarating day on the slopes, it's time to doff our skis and enjoy the après ski evening, where we will cosily plot our next ski adventure! What plans we make! It's not necessary to have a lively party; a quiet hot milky coffee with two or three friends after a day's fun on the slopes gives us the chance to bond and get ready for the morrow's pleasures.

Serena was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Hammss unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Serena’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” said Serena, exasperated. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”

You and your fellow pets may prefer to mostly ski together, but perhaps sometimes the more advanced skiers will tackle a challenging route down the mountain and you then meet at the bottom of the slope. A shared love and appreciation for snow makes for the perfect, spectacular and memorable holiday on the slopes.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Hammss!” said Aki. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Hammss good-naturedly took charge of Aki's possessions while he emptied his rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These he donned and then Hammss helped him put everything back in his rucksack.

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is one of the most spectacular displays in the night sky. These changing light patterns have fascinated and inspired for centuries. These swirling patterns of turquoise, with the bright moon in the background and the snowy landscape in the foreground make this an amazing picture.

It adds to the fun of going to your town's coffee shop: when your barista puts in front of you a hot, freshly made, foam-topped cappuccino, complete with beautiful artwork! What magic! A beautiful steamed-milk decoration looks like it must be very difficult to do, but once you get the knack, it really doesn't take very long to do at all! So make that drink look extra-special!
