Archie opened his rucksack to change his hat. Sir Barkey Barksalot could see Archie had a large, floppy sunhat, a balaclava, a rain hat, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a swimming cap!
“Did you bring a fez too?” Sir Barkey Barksalot asked Archie.

The trees growing atop this small island-in-an-island are thriving as the Gulf of St Lawrence laps close to their roots in this gentle coastal scene from Prince Edward Island!

"Have you seen this in our travel brochure, Archie? There's a town in Vancouver Island called 'Youbou'—the founders of its mill, Mr Yount and Mr Bounton, combined the first halves of their respective surnames to make Youbou in 1914."
Choose a name grinned and thought about it for a minute. "I guess it's like Waitrose in England, from Mr Waite and Mr Rose."
"Waitrose isn't a town, though, Choose a name."
"Edgar wishes it was!"
Solicitous Mum
Another opportunity to meet a Canada Goose, with her offspring! In recent years, Prince Edward Island has been an important migration stop for the Canada Goose in both spring and autumn.

“I'm enjoying the tour very much but it's getting quite cold, isn't it, Archie?” shivered ypmblessed.
“Here, wrap my scarf around yourself," replied Archie. "And you can look forward to a lovely mug of hot chocolate when we get back to our accommodation!"

While Prince Edward Island is known for its splendid coastline and farming communities, its capital, Charlottetown, is home to Victorian government buildings and the modern Confederation Centre of the Arts, with a theatre and art gallery.

@ Red Verdant Valley
“Ooh, it's just starting to drizzle, Archie!” said Oliver. “Can you hold my torch and map while I dig out my Pac-a-Mac?"
Archie good-naturedly took charge of Oliver's possessions while he emptied his rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a hotel key, some shopping receipts and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the Pac-a-Mac right at the bottom. This he donned and then Archie helped him put everything back in his rucksack.

“You know, I'd like to spend a whole week in this province here, Archie!” said Marmite.

“I don't know how to pronounce half of these place names, Archie!” said Applesauce ruefully.

North Rustico is a charming fishing village just five minutes from Cavendish, home of the Lucy Maud Montgomery Heritage Site. It's a must-see location for all fans of Anne of Green Gables!

Archie and Pony Pony came across each other in the hotel bar. "Hey, Pony Pony, what are you going to have?"
"I thought I'd try Canada’s national cocktail, the Caesar, Archie. It's made of vodka, clamato juice, tabasco and Worcestershire sauce."
Archie looked puzzled. "What's clamato juice, Pony Pony?"
"Tomato juice with clams and chilli!"

Beachcombing is a soothing activity which involves combing the shoreline to see what objects of interest you can see. This could be shells, pebbles, seaglass or even something more unusual! Beaches can be very specific in what they collect, due to currents, geography and offshore habitats. Some beaches are good for driftwood, others for mermaid’s purses.

“Let’s pose with one of us each side of this attraction and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Archie to Choose a name. “It’ll be a fab souvenir of our time here!”

From across the road, LILJE surveyed the current stop on their map. “Would you fancy living there, Archie?”
"Well, it's certainly a bit different to where we live," said Archie. "But I could get used to it, I daresay!"

The blue jay is found throughout most of Canada, with the exception of the far west of the country. It is the provincial bird of PEI. The blue jay’s vivid cobalt or azure-blue tail and wing feathers make an exotic contrast against brown leaves or green grass. However, these feathers are not truly blue, as blue pigment is unknown in birds. The blue jay’s feather colour results from refraction, or distortion, of light by a peculiar inner structure of the feather substance.

Northern Cardinal
A great number of birds, including the Northern Cardinal and Blue Jay, have evolved to remain in Canada throughout the year. Many flock together, sometimes with other species, and huddle to help retain heat. This also reduces the need to watch out for predators. Most remain active by feeding on nuts, dried fruit, seeds, twigs and branches in the vegetation. Many of these species flock to bird feeders, where they supplement their diet with fatty items.

“It would be great fun to camp overnight, wouldn't it, Flipper?” said Archie.
Flipper shivered. “Brrrrrrrr! I think it would be a little too cold, Archie! I like my creature comforts!"

Nova Scotia, which is Latin for "New Scotland", is home to the largest Scottish Gaelic-speaking community outside of Scotland and their flag is a reversal in colours of Scotland's, consisting of a blue saltire on a white field. Peggy's Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margarets Bay.

"It's turned a bit hot, Archie. I'm going to put my sunhat on," said Beatrice.
"Good scheme! I'll dig mine out as well," said Archie.

Peggy's Point Lighthouse is an active lighthouse and an enduring image of Canada. Situated within Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, it is one of the busiest tourist attractions in the province and is a prime attraction on the Lighthouse Trail scenic drive. The lighthouse is operated by the Canadian Coast Guard and is situated on a granite outcrop at Peggy's Point, immediately south of the village and its cove. The red and white lighthouse is one of the most-photographed structures in Atlantic Canada and one of the most recognisable lighthouses in the world.

@ Bras d'Or Lake
“If there's time at the end when we get back to the hotel tonight, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Carolyna said, offering Archie a maple syrup toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for herself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Carolyna!" said Archie.
Bras d'Or Lake
Bras d'Or Lake is an estuary in the centre of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. It has a connection to the open sea, and is tidal. It also has inflows of fresh water from rivers, making the brackish water a very productive natural habitat. It was designated the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2011.

Archie and Treetop shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Archie. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Treetop. “This is my best side.”

Yarmouth is a port town in Nova Scotia, whose industries include fishing and tourism. It is the terminus of a ferry service to Portland, Maine. It was formerly a major shipbuilding centre.

@ We All Live in a Yellow Rowing Boat
“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse like this one pictured in our itinerary in Nova Scotia? So romantic!" mused Archie, nibbling on a taffy lolly.
"Well, I don't know," said Choose a name. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have to run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
Archie considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."
We All Live in a Yellow Rowing Boat
When you've done rowing round the coastline in your colourful boat, pull up an equally colourful chair to relax by this small bay! Nova Scotia has an incredibly long coastline compared to its overall size due to all its ins and outs, so there are numerous tiny inlets and bays all around the island.
