Addy and star are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Two-tone was hailed by Addy, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, Two-tone!” said Addy. “I could stay here for hours!”

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
Addy and NUTTER had shaken paws and took some time to enjoy the super view in a companionable silence!

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
“I could stay here forever, Addy,” said Sir Precious McPrance. “This is an amazing place!”
“Well, you never know what lies ahead, Sir Precious McPrance. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is even better!” said Addy.

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
"Put your camera down for a minute, Addy," said Josie, "and just drink in that view!"

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
“I’m going to try growing these at home!” announced Addy, after she and PHOENIX had tucked into some yummy organic harvest food!
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
“Shall we take a selfie?” Addy asked Strawberry Daiquiri as they drank in the peaceful scene and admired each other’s purchases of harvest produce.

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Addy and Elias, having shaken paws, got so engrossed in conversation about the beautiful scenery that they had to hurry along so as not to be left behind! They regretfully bade au revoir and auf Wiedersehen to each other!

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Choose a name.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Addy. "Is he on this tour?"

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Waddles said to Addy. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

@ Nectar Delight
coco bent down to sniff the flower in front of her but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, coco?” asked Addy.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said coco.

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
“What’s this flower called?” Addy said to Snipsnap. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Snipsnap and hastily changed the subject.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
Donna and Addy shook paws with each other and compared notes as to how their respective trips had gone so far, and which was the most delicious harvest item they had each come across.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, Addy," said Sweetums, "for this experience alone?" Addy, admiring the scene they were now in, heartily agreed!

“Isn’t this amazing, PluttiPott?” declared Addy. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
Addy was in a hurry to move along and shake some more paws, but Frisky decided to stay where he was for a while, and sketch the scenery for this week's Art Challenge!

“I hope we can buy more of this at our local farmer's market,” observed Addy, as she and Moo tucked into a delicious food sample!

"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Jin" said Addy. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Addy! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked MooCow.
"Well," said Addy, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Two beautiful waterlily dahlias in a vase create the perfect simple, yet elegant look. The stunning large blooms need no other adornment.

@ Teasels and Carnations
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Addy to Cuckoo.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
