@ PnF Meeting House
Toby and Taki are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Arriving at such a wonderful location spurred Toby on to get to the next stop on the Autumn Experience. However, Jodie sat down, insisting on a rest and complaining of blisters!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
While Toby paused to enjoy the view, Sir Barkey Barksalot started scrabbling in his rucksack for his portable, folding camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Sir Barkey Barksalot?” asked Toby. “We’ll need to get going in a minute or we’ll be left behind!”

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Toby was very happy to meet Heidi here! They both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Toby and VV were entranced at reaching this stopping place and eagerly posed for a picture!

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
“These are great as a cake flavouring,” said Toby.
“You can add it to savoury dishes as well. It’s very versatile,” observed Jake.

Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
Toby and Morri shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Toby. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Morri. “This is my best side.”

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

"Put your camera down for a minute, Toby," said ~meepop~, "and just drink in that view!"

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
Granville bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Granville?” asked Toby.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Granville.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
Lyra and Toby shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

@ Nectar Delight
“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Choose a name.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Toby. "Is he on this tour?"

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Coco" said Toby. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Toby! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

@ Basket of Pine Cones
nicki and Toby counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared nicki.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
Toby and Bess, having shaken paws, got so engrossed in conversation about the beautiful scenery that they had to hurry along so as not to be left behind! They regretfully bade au revoir and auf Wiedersehen to each other!

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"This is a glorious specimen, Cutey Purr", observed Toby. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Toby?" said Cutey Purr. "Buy a garden gnome!"

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
“Time to move on and shake the next paw!” observed Toby. Chewbie agreed, but said he was going to stay here awhile and collect pine cones.

Toby and Tigger shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Toby?” said Tigger.

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
“This reminds me of Meadowlands,” observed Toby, musing as he and Fin took a moment to admire the produce beside them. “Such a lovely, peaceful scene.”

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

@ Red and Purple Leafy Vine
“What’s this flower called?” Toby said to Hansi (Icky Bird Who Can't Fly). “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Hansi (Icky Bird Who Can't Fly) and hastily changed the subject.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

@ Waterlily Dahlias
"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Smoki.
"Well," said Toby, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Two beautiful waterlily dahlias in a vase create the perfect simple, yet elegant look. The stunning large blooms need no other adornment.

@ Colorful Berries
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Toby. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Meowchi sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

@ Teasels and Carnations
“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Toby.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied Beatrice.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.

Cherish Scrappy Demure bent down to sniff the flower in front of them but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Cherish Scrappy Demure?” asked Toby.
