Happy Hanukkah

Scaredy Cat is nervous. Today at school, his teacher taught the class about Hanukkah, a holiday celebrated by Jewish pets around the world. She told them the story of how a group of Jews only had one night's worth of oil to light a candle in the temple and miraculously, the oil lasted a whole eight nights! It is for that reason that Hannukah is sometimes called the "Festival of Lights". He then learned about some of the food and games they may have at a Hanukkah gathering. Trying to pronounce the names is a lot of work. And he's trying to remember them because he's been invited to a Hanukkah party to celebrate the first night of the holiday. Potato latkes - can't they just say what they are - potato pancakes? And sufganiyot - those are just jelly-filled donuts with powdered sugar! And that thing called a dreidel - it's just a top with funny-looking shapes that they call letters. The candle holder - that's easy to say - menorah. But don't ask him to pronounce the special candle in the middle - a pet could get tongue-tied saying shamash. Oh he hopes that he doesn't make a fool of himself.

This week, we're celebrating Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights. It's a time for friends and family to come together for each night of Hanukkah. What will your pet do to celebrate this festive holiday? Will they try making their own latkes? Will they buy some chocolate "gelt" (gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins) for the dreidel game? Hey - maybe they'll use Golden Moles for the game as prizes!! Will your pet eat all the sufganiyot (if they can pronounce it)? Share with us how you and your pet will celebrate this week-long holiday!
