Brown Hamster

I can keep you entertained for hours. Give me a wheel and I will run as I spin it. As the wheel is spinning and I am running, the waistline is getting thinner. That’s good news. It means I can stuff my face with more food. I think running and eating are my two favourite pastimes. So, if you think about it, I am a cute and cuddly, running, eating, entertainment machine. Only I am not really a machine. I am a hamster. A brown hamster. A brown hamster with little pink feet. Did I tell you that I think I am gorgeous?

Do you think I look chubby in this outfit? It’s difficult for me to see my feet but I know they are poking out below somewhere. I saw my reflection in the pond the other day and I have to tell you that I liked what I saw. Nice rounded cheeks, lovely rounded body. I would make a good cuddly pet, provided you give me the opportunity to eat as many seeds and vegies as possible. If you want me to hop in a wheel and spin, spin, spin, then keep the meals coming or I will get too thin, thin, thin!

There is a perfectly good reason why I am sitting. You see I can’t actually move. I ate and ate and now I have blown right up, almost like a balloon and my feet won’t touch the ground. I found a particularly good patch of seeds and filled my cheeks to the brim. Actually, I filled my tummy first and then carried the rest back in my cheeks for later on. But later on came quicker than I imagined and I just had to eat them there and then. He he, yes you can laugh, but right now I will just sit here and wait until my feet touch the ground again.

Your pet becomes an expert at finding its own food!

When you are small enough that major predators just take pity on you, and you can’t see as far as the mirror you are trying to recognise yourself in, familiar well-worn paths are all you ever venture on, and then you go as fast as you can to make sure nobody spots you before you spot them, because you can’t see them anyway …

The only safe way for tiny rodents and other miniature four-legged creatures to compete with one another is to go nowhere fast. Once the word leaked out about hamster wheels, everypet from geckos to beavers liked the idea. So now the big event for small creatures is wheel racing. If you have never heard about it, that’s because you were too big to notice!
