Baby Seal

Hi there! Remember me from Christmas? It’s my favorite season! WINTER!!!! So many fun things about winter! Running on the ice, playing with my friends, swimming in the icy water! Ooh, look over there! Other harp seal pups are playing Slip and Slide! So much fun for a young seal pup! We waddle really fast, then slide on the ice on our tummies into the water! I'm telling Mama that I'm going to go play. She says I "keep her on her toes" which is funny, because she has flippers, like me! I love, love, LOVE to swim and can hold my breath for up to 15 mins! Wanna see? I'll dive and you count! What? You don't want to count for that long? Well, that's okay I guess. We can do something else! Don't worry - I won't get lost as my Mama can find me easily just by smelling for me! Isn't that funny? I hope I'm not too stinky! Speaking of stinky, fish can be stinky! And since I'm about ready to be without my Mama, I'll have to hunt for fish to eat! YUM!!!!! But for now, I am going to go play!!! I think I'll go swim and pretend I'm in the Olympics by diving around various ice blocks. Doesn't that sound fun? It sure does! Come on!!!!!!

Dolphins have always been very playful, proudly showing off their abilities to leap high into the air and pirouette their way into the depths, reminiscent of a chorus line in a famous ballet! But dolphins are also very social, and soon realised that their friends the manatees, sea turtles and fish did not share their grace or dexterity.

So the dolphins conceived of an activity that all of their friends could join in with them and enjoy. Distance swimming races…which the stodgy older turtles secretly refer to as “organised drowning”…
