St. Bernard, The Rescue Dog

The beautiful, large dog known as the St. Bernard was first trained in the 1600s by Monks, to rescue people trapped in avalanches in the Swiss Alps.

Woof! I know I am huge, the type of dog that makes a great pillow but I am also calm, friendly, gentle and caring. I am the perfect family dog and great with other pets.

The larger the dog the less need for intense exercise, a short half-hour walk will do me just fine. So more time for cuddles, and lying by the fireplace or under a tree.

Dog-athlon

The history of dog-athlon? Welllll, I suppose Dog-athlon got started when the first caveman held up a juicy bone and and threw it out for his pack to fight over it. Of course, back then a bone could feed fifty!

Nowadays? Things have certainly changed, but suffice it to say, the pampered pooches of today will run, jump, flip, swim, prance, and trot for a delicious, low-carb, high-protein, sugarless, gluten-free, all organic 100% USDA certified treats!

But, that don’t mean every competitor’s playing with the blood of legends in their veins. Last year, one of our greats nearly drowned in a vat of honey. Thank goodness that family of bears happened by. They licked that vat plum clean and the ol' dog finally got that bath he’d been avoiding!

Few years before that, one enthusiastic pup went after a frisbee and never stopped running. Legend says her fancy pants owner can still be heard calling for her down Rodeo Drive. Some of these competitors? Well, they’re pretty, I’ll give’em that.

Of course, then you get a few who are Day One naturals, born to win, by any means necessary. Yes, sirree, if you’re racing a natural, you best be on your tippy-toes, one eye open at all times. These kids got talent and if talent don’t get them the win, they ain’t opposed to a bit of creative strategizing, if you catch my drift.
