The pirate ship was towed to the docks. The troll looked kind of hooman and Monty was wearing a pirate hat, so he must be a pirate and pirates are hooman. So nobody raised an eyebrow.

In later years the crew of “The Dragon” could never quite explain what happened, because surely trolls and moles could not have been involved; but the troll and the mole were taken to a nice expensive looking government office, whilst the pirates were taken to a bigger one which didn’t look quite so desirable.

After some ‘slugs’, which turned out to be a drink, the mole would have said ‘yes’ to anything. So when they asked him if he wanted a thousand doubloons or to keep the ship as his own, the mole said “both would be nice.” Once the bounty on the pirates had been added up, the authorities were pleased for him to have both in full payment. So Monty told the troll to take him back to the ship, where he slept off the rum.
