PSA: PET PTSD

Fireworks are fun for the humans, not so much for PTSD pets. They become extremely anxious and fearful to the point of shutting down mental and emotionally. Please keep them in mind when shooting off fireworks. Quinn tells Jethro, do not worry I will protect you from all that is scary.

Jethro is having a very bad day with his anxiety. Quinn invited some new friends to cheer him up. PTSD dogs are either fight or flight babies. Jethro is flight. Which means he is fearful of everything unfamiliar and will flee to get away from things that scare him. Which means someone either a. he becomes a sled dog trying to get home or b. his muscles freeze up and he gets carried home. Then someday he is actually afraid to cross the threshold of the door. Other days all is right in his world and you would never know he has PTSD.

Funky Festival

In the Great Smoky Mountains, Synchronous Fireflies is a big hit. Synchronous fireflies are one of at least 19 species of fireflies that live in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They are the only species in America whose individuals can synchronize their flashing light patterns. This is one of our most favorite things to see in the mountains.

Canine PTSD Appreciation Day

The day my RL Huck Finn was given an official diagnosis after many months struggling to help him live and cope in a world he is afraid of. Canines with PTSD become extremely anxious and fearful to the point of shutting down mental and emotionally. Without his official diagnosis and treatment, his life would have been in the only place he felt truly safe, his crate. Jasper pictured above was adopted solely to honor my Huck Finn.
