Hello! I am Tranquile and own a Caterpillar Sanctuary - a home catering to Caterpillars but welcoming to care for all tiny creatures, too! My Sanctuary is run by a close-nit group of volunteers, all wonderful friends you'll get to meet soon. Below you can see the types of animals I am housing, the wonderful volunteers I have, and read about my Sanctuary history. Below the history section you can start to really get to know my residents and volunteers, and even meet our neighbors!

~~Tranquile's Caterpillar Sanctuary History~~
Tranquile was never the largest fox in her family, nor among her friends. Much to her disappointment, she was always the smallest of her age. Teased regularly by those she grew up with, she never felt at home. Often after her school day she would run off to a secluded small patch of trees to cry.

Tranquile always felt safe in her little hideaway. One day while sitting alone crying, she felt a tickle on her paw. Opening her eyes she saw a little blue caterpillar walking in circles on her paw. She lifted her paw to get a better look, the little caterpillar jumped onto her head!

Leaping with fright, Tranquile pranced anxiously around her secluded hideaway.

"Hush, hush, Tranquile," the little blue caterpillar cooed. Tranquile stopped suddenly, the little caterpillar holding tightly to her fur. How does it know my name? she thought in fright.

"My friends and I have watched you many days and nights," the little caterpillar answered to Tranquile's thoughts. "Crying alone, scolding yourself for things you cannot change." Tranquile sat in shock, her demeanor slowly saddened as she realized her hideaway had not kept her hidden from all.

The little blue caterpillar crawled off Tranquile's head to a nearby branch. The little caterpillar could see the grief in Tranquile's eyes. "Do not be sad, my friend. We know how it feels to be teased for being so small. To be forgotten and ignored. We want you to grieve no longer."

Before her eyes, Tranquile watched two more little blue caterpillars creep out of a tree. A couple little butterflies, dragonflies, birds and spiders made their way out of other trees and bushes.

Tranquile always felt safe in her little hideaway, now she felt welcomed. She began building a small treehouse, a place she could call her own.

One night after dinner Tranquile snuck out to her hideaway. When she reached her treehouse she was shocked! There were hundreds of little caterpillars, butterflies, and dragonflies, working together to finish her treehouse. She could even spy little inchworms, birds, and squirrels!

The little blue caterpillar who has been so kind crawled over to Tranquile. "We finished your hideaway for you, so you would know how special you are to us."

Tranquile cried with joy that day. Many days passed where Tranquile enjoyed time with her new friends. One day she made a choice, to move on to a new place to start over, to share her new found enjoyment with others. It was a tearful farewell as she left her friends behind.

Traveling without a solid destination, Tranquile traveled many days, trying to figure out what one little red fox could do to help others. She stopped suddenly, shouts of joy and bursts of laughter lifting her from her thoughts. She saw many different creatures, of all shapes and sizes, playing together, eating together, shopping together.

Tranquile knew -- this was where she would stay. She still didn't know what she could do, but she knew this was where she would do it.

She found a small place to call her own, and made a small shelter. Tranquile dreamed of the friends she left behind, of all the joy and hope they had given her. She woke knowing what she could do. She would build a place, a home, where she could welcome those who were like her, feeling too small to be important. A sanctuary where all would feel welcome, dedicating it to those who first helped her.

Through many nights and long days of work Tranquile built her home, her sanctuary. She made many rooms, many gardens inside and out, rooms for any type of creature. She worried she may not be able to help everyone, but knew she could find a way.

Tranquile's Caterpillar Sanctuary opened on 23 May 2015, welcoming six little Blue Caterpillars on the opening day, and two immediate volunteers to her cause - Samuel the Panda and Maurice the Tiger.

Meet our Volunteers, Residents, and Neighbors Below!

~~~Volunteer Friends: 15~~~
~Caterpillars
1. Susanna (f)
Welcome to the Sanctuary! I'm Susanna, one of the first caterpillars to join Tranquile. I absolutely love the Sanctuary! I never feel out of place or ignored, even with such a large number of us. Tranquile and her volunteers always give us lots of space and attention. I started as a normal resident, but I made it a point to follow Tranquile wherever she goes so she always has help close at hand. We've become best friends, even finishing each other's sentences and knowing what the other wants without voicing it. I might even say we're more than friends, we're like family.
Hey everybody!! The name is Seriny, I volunteer here at the Caterpillar Sanctuary. Ooooohhhh, did you see that light? What was that? Aww..it was just a glare from a passing vehicle. Where was I? Oh yeah, I was introducing myself! I work here at the Caterpillar Sanctuary, taking care of the more 'hyper' residents. Well, at least I get told they're hyper. I don't think so. Sometimes those caterpillars just aren't fast enough! Have you ever had to sit and wait for caterpillars to catch up while you're on a walk? It's sooooo boring! Though I guess a nature walk is supposed to be more walking than running...but I can't help myself! Something catches my eye and I just have to go! Ahh! Did you see that flower petal? Hold on while I go catch it!
~Leopards: 2
1. Iilza (f)
Oooo! Guests! Welcome to the Sanctuary, my home. I used to travel the world, always looking for something. My heart yearned, but I was never able to satisfy it, until I met Tranquile. She was wandering the stores, buying some supplies to bring back to the Sanctuary, and she certainly had her paws full. Never one to ignore a simple good deed, I offered Tranquile a paw with her purchases. The talk we had as I helped her carry everything was one of sorrow, joy, and enlightenment. Going inside and meeting the residents and volunteers, I finally knew. I knew this was what my heart has always wanted - somewhere to call home where I could help those around me.
*yawn*
Oh, hello. Welcome to my little room in the Sanctuary. It is a bit small, but I don't mind, I usually just come here for naps. I spend so much time chasing after caterpillars, dragonflies, mice, and, erm, the many other animals we have here. *aaahhhhh* Sorry, still a bit sleepy. Had a late night helping the smaller caterpillars learn how to climb trees. Oh, you didn't know? Not every caterpillar can climb trees easily, some of them need lots of encouragement. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get a bit more sleep...
~Quadropus, Blue: 1
1. Rosa (m)
Hola, visitantes! Rosa here, and I help the Sanctuary with their water excursions! I traveled here from across the seas, and was thinking of heading back home until I met Tranquile. I just loved her enthusiasm, teaching caterpillars to swim! I'd never seen such a thing before! I spend a lot of down time floating around the local lakes, building sandcastles, and directing tourists when they're lost. Tranquile even added a "water room" to the Volunteer Wing so I can stay around more often!
~Tigers: 21. Maurice (m)
Salutations, visitor. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Maurice, and I volunteer here at Tranquile's Caterpillar Sanctuary. I met Tranquile while she was on an outing with her first group of residents, all blue caterpillars. I learned her story and decided I could spare some time volunteering with her establishment. How much I have learned and grown as a tiger was quite unexpected! Recently I moved in to the Volunteer Wing of the Sanctuary, so I could be of more help to Tranquile. When I have down time I thoroughly enjoy reading history and studying the arts. The residents all love my painting lessons.
~Turtles: 21. William (m)
My daughter, Sanzsa, and I were training for a race in the forest when Tranquile and some friends stumbled upon us, completely exhausted. Tranquile was kind enough to bring us in and help us with our training, and some of the caterpillars even joined in. After the race there was a big party, where Tranquile invited us to stay. We talked about it, my daughter had made many friends while we were training, heavily swaying my opinion. Sanzsa is still too young to help with volunteering, but she enjoys going to resident activities very much.
1. Damian (m)
Who's there? Oh! Hello! Please, come in. I'm just finishing up my latest piece. I love creating clothing, fashion is a big passion of mine. Afraid I'm not all that good at sewing though, so my pieces usually stay on the page unless I can find someone to help bring them to life. Well yes, I suppose the piece is a little 'feminine', but what is 'feminine' really? Just a term we put on things that don't need them. I have no shame in appreciating these things, they are what I like and what makes me, me. That's what I excel at here, helping to show the residents and volunteers things aren't always as they appear. Maybe you could join us on our next outing? I plan on bring the residents to a village festival - lots of good music, fantastic food, and incredible art.
1. Arla (f)
Aren't my wings simply to die for? I certainly think so. They are gorgeous! Stripes are so in this season. Much better than that strange purple design I've seen on other butterflies. Not that they can help it, it's not their fault, and I would gladly help them with some fashion choices to accentuate their, err, other beauty. Accessories are key! I just love helping the other residents make good accessory choices. Oh and Damian! He is simply marvelous with what he creates, I just might turn green with envy!
1. Stanley (m)
I've been around for awhile, raised my children, watched my grandchildren grow, and decided to start traveling. No literal wings for me, I'll fly as is. One day during my travels I found tiny Trinity and Destiny trying to figure out how to reach a low hanging leaf. I helped them out then started on my way, the two of them following behind. Try my best I couldn't get rid of them. After several days I gave up and invited them with me. What sort of crotchety old man would I be to leave those little girls alone and helpless? This Sanctuary was a life saver, almost literally. Not sure I would have been able to keep after these girls until they can take care of themselves.
2. Trinity (f) & 3. Destiny (f)
We're twins! Can you tell? Trinity is older, but just barely! We hatched just second apart. Sadly no one was around when we hatched, and we wandered around for a while until Stanley found us. He was very sweet, and brought us along when he heard about the Sanctuary. Trinity just loves all the art activities - painting, sculpting, paper crafts, everything! Destiny is all about going hiking and swimming. And both of us love to sing!
4. Carl (m)
Housed Mice: 1
~Grey Long-Tailed Mouse1. Nerameem (m)
Eeep! Careful! Don't step on me! Phew...sorry to run under your feet like that, sometimes I start on a trail and just forget about everything around me. It has some advantages though, I'm the best one around here when it comes to mazes and I know all the little hidden passages through the Sanctuary. Ever need to get somewhere in here in a hurry, call for me!
Housed Turtles: 2
1. Sanzsa (f)
Isn't this place amazing? I'm still a little turtle, so much growing to do! But I have a lot of fun hanging out with my new friends. I'm very happy Papa said we could stay, being only around turtles all day every day is so boring! That's why I wanted to train to race, to get to meet new people and see new places. I never dreamed of ending up somewhere like this, I love it!
