Tripper and Shamika are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Tripper and choco shook paws, then looked around in awe, wishing they hadn’t already eaten their lunch! This was the most perfect place for a picnic!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
“Oh hello, Tripper!” cried Ivory. “Didn’t we bump into each other at Crocodile Creek a while ago?”

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Tripper was in a hurry to move along and shake some more paws, but tigg decided to stay where she was for a while, and sketch the scenery for this week's Art Challenge!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
“What an amazing view!” exclaimed Tripper after shaking paws with Choose a name, who agreed with her. Tripper was excited to meet up again with Choose a name. They both took a moment to admire the amazing scene around them.

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Aria and Tripper counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared Aria.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
Tripper had to travel on alone, as Mia declared he had found paradise, and had no intention of moving on!

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Tripper gazed at the scene around her in awe, while shakur grumbled a little about Tripper's so-called shortcut, if his blisters were anything to go by!

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Shadow" said Tripper. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Tripper! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
“Isn’t this amazing, Alex?” declared Tripper. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

@ Nectar Delight
“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Mollie.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Tripper. "Is he on this tour?"

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
“What’s this flower called?” Tripper said to Moon. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Moon and hastily changed the subject.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
PingPing greeted Tripper cheerily, recommending she expended some silver moles on the fresh harvest food before them.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

"Put your camera down for a minute, Tripper," said BINE, "and just drink in that view!"

“What’s this flower called?” Tripper said to Maxwell. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Maxwell and hastily changed the subject.

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
“Let’s pose with one of us at each side and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Tripper to Lalique. “It’ll be a wonderful souvenir of our time here!”

@ Juicy Blackberries
Inspired by the sunny day, Olivia said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Tripper took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Olivia hastily revised her romantic harvest vision.

@ Red Bloom Awakening

"Well," said Tripper, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
Doctor Hoo and Tripper shook paws with each other and compared notes as to how their respective trips had gone so far, and which was the most delicious harvest item they had each come across.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

Wuzzle and Tripper shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Tripper.

@ Teasels and Carnations
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Tripper to Rhian.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
