Lovey and Botulistom are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
“Let’s pose with one of us at each side and I’ll set the self-timer to take a shot,” said Lovey to Bella. “It’ll be a wonderful souvenir of our time here!”

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
“What have you got in your tote bag, Leticia Lucia Finletter?” asked Lovey. “It looks very full!”
“I’ve come prepared for anything the weather can throw at us, Lovey,” responded Leticia Lucia Finletter. “There’s deck shoes, snowshoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, flippers, walking boots, Wellington boots—you name them, I’ve got them!”

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Lovey was very happy to meet Elodie Vivia ♡ here! They both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Arriving at such a wonderful location spurred Lovey on to get to the next stop on the Autumn Experience. However, Astrid sat down, insisting on a rest and complaining of blisters!

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Lovey was excited by seeing all the different harvest produce. “I’m going to apply for an allotment and start growing my own food!” he announced to Lacy, when they met and shook paws.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
The quiet and serenity of the next scene made Lovey and jimkitty feel like they were the only pets left in PnF Land ...

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Roxy shook paws with Lovey and was just enjoying the view when she was distracted by loud rustling as Lovey unfolded a very lengthy Autumn Experience itinerary, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Roxy’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Roxy. “I’m about to take a photo of this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”
Japanese Maple in Red
See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Zazzy said to Lovey. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Mac.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Lovey. "Is he on this tour?"

@ Nectar Delight
“These make a fine display, don’t they, Lovey?” said Strawberry Daiquiri, when she and Lovey had shaken paws.

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Lovey. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Oscar sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“These are great as a cake flavouring,” said Lovey.
“You can add it to savoury dishes as well. It’s very versatile,” observed Tornado.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

grey was hailed by Lovey, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, grey!” said Lovey. “I could stay here for hours!”

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Cat Blossom.
"Well," said Lovey, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Lovey to Inukshuk.

“What’s this flower called?” Lovey said to Elsa. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Elsa and hastily changed the subject.

@ Teasels and Carnations
“What’s this flower called?” Lovey said to Bella. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Bella and hastily changed the subject.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
