In this part of the travel game, the pets delve into Bohemian culture in the area of the city that attracts painters, writers, musicians, sculptors and others who express themselves through art. Whether the pets spend time discussing philosophy in one of the many quaint bars or observing the creation of a masterpiece in a tiny, paint splattered studio apartment, or viewing huge graffiti pictures, they will wind up their visit with a trip to some underground cellars before ending the day with the opportunity to purchase some flowers or an elaborately decorated ridotto mask!

This open air café is just the place to gather with your friends to drink coffee and chat about your artistic endeavours, such as making music, writing books or poetry, singing, dancing, drawing, painting or sculpting.

zora bent down to pick up a carelessly discarded sweetie wrapper and made to put it in the bin. "Be careful, zora!" cried out Dallas hiding a grin. "That's probably part of someone's art installation."
"Oh tosh, Dallas. It's a sweet wrapper."
Dallas looked amused. "A surprising number of entire art exhibitions are thrown away by the cleaners assuming they're rubbish, you know."

This relaxed setting plays host to a veritable colony of artists congregating in town to mix informally with like minds and kindred spirits, to discuss the new, the unorthodox and the avant garde.

"Oh, I like the piece hanging on this wall," said Blossom enthusiastically. "Look at the undulating yet regular metalwork, and the lovely shade of magnolia that it's been painted in."
Dallas snorted. ”That's the radiator, Blossom!" he said.

Situated in a lively narrow street packed with bars, restaurants and cafés and thronging with artists of all types rubbing shoulders in the milieu of aesthetic innovation, this bistro is a splendid place to have a bite to eat and to take in the local colour before sallying forth—perhaps to have your portrait painted or your silhouette cut out and pasted on card!

@ Jay and Puddle’s Cocktail Bar
Bubble and Dallas paused to watch a pavement artist painting the portrait of one of their fellow-travellers. “Hi, Foxy!” called out Dallas excitedly.
Startled, the artist dropped his loaded brush on the ground, sending drops of paint flying in Bubble and Dallas's direction!

Come where everyone knows your name. Pull up a stool and place your order. Root beer, whisky, rye and ginger ale we have it all! Plates of nachos and cheese, poutine and wings are also plentiful for the ordering. Don’t let the shenanigans scare you off. Princess was still mulling over a previous attraction. “All that paint coming off, and the crumbling stone! And they call it art?"
"Oh, Princess, you need to really feel and appreciate the different textures!" replied Dallas, a trifle condescendingly.
Princess sniffed. ”That's like saying you should butter your toast with your bare paw," she said. “You know, really appreciate those crumby, buttery textures (!)”

Donna nearly stumbled over Dallas, who was lying stretched out on the pavement. “I was wishing I’d brought my watercolours,” said Dallas. “This just cries out to be painted!”

In Spanish a barrel is called a “tonel” and the weight of a full barrel is 1 ton. It is the same in English where the origin of the word “ton” is “tun” a wooden wine vessel. A tonelada referred to the space needed for a tonel of liquid in a ship.

These small windows are a delightful mix of ornate metal decoration contrasting with the smooth curves of the earth tone frames, all set off by the duck egg blue of the walls. This soft greenish blue stems from the first discovery of a blue pigment in the 18th century, which was then lightened with white.

The artists' quarter is known for its vibrant use of colour and this little road is no exception. Cerulean walls baked over the years by the sun to a more muted but no less beautiful shade make this house stand out!

Well-worked graffiti art is typically bold, creative and colourful. It changes the character of the area where it appears. In many cases this is positive, since graffiti art can turn dull monotone buildings and bare walls into interesting and eye-catching exhibitions of the imagination. High-quality graffiti contained within a particular area can raise that neighbourhood's profile as an arts scene. In time, other artists flock there, and the cultural value of the area is increased. This can in the long-term aid the local economy, as tourists head to the area to look at the graffiti, and locally-run tours pop up to show visitors around.

Stained glass is an art form that has been in use since mediaeval times and we tend to associate it with church windows, a riot of bright colours illustrating a narrative. This example has the feel of industrial architecture about it, with its regular rectangular glass panes and muted colours but is nonetheless beautiful.

These stairs, with their quiet cream and brown colouring, and multistorey stairwell view ever upwards, create a definite vibe.

Handmade by Italian artisans, the Venetian masquerade or Joker mask has a long history. Venice is a city of romance and high fashion and the masks have always held a sense of mystery. Venetians were famous for hiding their identity and taking risks both in business and in love. The wearing of masks at balls and masquerades spread and they would be worn in Mozart's Salzburg and at fashionable Georgian London ridottos.
