In this part of the travel game, the pets delve into Bohemian culture in the area of the city that attracts painters, writers, musicians, sculptors and others who express themselves through art. Whether the pets spend time discussing philosophy in one of the many quaint bars or observing the creation of a masterpiece in a tiny, paint splattered studio apartment, or viewing huge graffiti pictures, they will wind up their visit with a trip to some underground cellars before ending the day with the opportunity to purchase some flowers or an elaborately decorated ridotto mask!

This open air café is just the place to gather with your friends to drink coffee and chat about your artistic endeavours, such as making music, writing books or poetry, singing, dancing, drawing, painting or sculpting.

Remy agreed. ”There's something about looking at a bunch of art fixtures that makes me very thirsty, Koola!" he said.

Sugar bent down to pick up a carelessly discarded sweetie wrapper and made to put it in the bin. "Be careful, Sugar!" cried out Remy hiding a grin. "That's probably part of someone's art installation."
"Oh tosh, Remy. It's a sweet wrapper."
Remy looked amused. "A surprising number of entire art exhibitions are thrown away by the cleaners assuming they're rubbish, you know."

A narrow street just made for wandering down and dropping into wherever you come across that looks interesting, be it a bar, studio or shop. Fun spots can be random and ramshackle!

Remy snorted. ”That's the radiator, Sapphire Rose!" he said.

The artists' quarter is known for inexpensive living for a creative or freelance lifestyle, nameless small rooms with bare walls, recycled furniture and good cooking, the type of aesthetic now replicated the world over. It maintains both an edge and an underground.

In Spanish a barrel is called a “tonel” and the weight of a full barrel is 1 ton. It is the same in English where the origin of the word “ton” is “tun” a wooden wine vessel. A tonelada referred to the space needed for a tonel of liquid in a ship.

From across the road, jimkitty eyed the attraction they had just left. “I don't know, Remy,” he said. “Would you call that art?”
"Oh yes, I daresay," said Remy airily. “We just don't understand it, I expect.”

These small windows are a delightful mix of ornate metal decoration contrasting with the smooth curves of the earth tone frames, all set off by the duck egg blue of the walls. This soft greenish blue stems from the first discovery of a blue pigment in the 18th century, which was then lightened with white.

The artists' quarter is known for its vibrant use of colour and this little road is no exception. Cerulean walls baked over the years by the sun to a more muted but no less beautiful shade make this house stand out!

Here the surface qualities of the water play a fundamental role in giving the composition of the architecture a final effect—acting in this case not as a perfect mirror but by giving a diffuse touch to the colour and texture of the reflected houses.

"I think there'll be quite a few tired paws, wings and flippers when we get back to the tour bus," said Salem, after she and Remy had spent some time exploring another long, narrow alleyway to its end. "Is there a gift shop at the end? The thought of that generally keeps me going."

Well-worked graffiti art is typically bold, creative and colourful. It changes the character of the area where it appears. In many cases this is positive, since graffiti art can turn dull monotone buildings and bare walls into interesting and eye-catching exhibitions of the imagination. High-quality graffiti contained within a particular area can raise that neighbourhood's profile as an arts scene. In time, other artists flock there, and the cultural value of the area is increased. This can in the long-term aid the local economy, as tourists head to the area to look at the graffiti, and locally-run tours pop up to show visitors around.

Stained glass is an art form that has been in use since mediaeval times and we tend to associate it with church windows, a riot of bright colours illustrating a narrative. This example has the feel of industrial architecture about it, with its regular rectangular glass panes and muted colours but is nonetheless beautiful.

Handmade by Italian artisans, the Venetian masquerade or Joker mask has a long history. Venice is a city of romance and high fashion and the masks have always held a sense of mystery. Venetians were famous for hiding their identity and taking risks both in business and in love. The wearing of masks at balls and masquerades spread and they would be worn in Mozart's Salzburg and at fashionable Georgian London ridottos.
