@ Dashing Through the Snow
Max and Rustie have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Ski & Skate
Today's trip is on a modern train with spacious seats and large windows to enjoy the passing winter scenery. The train's first stop by a frozen lake allows the pets the opportunity to stretch their legs with a little skating! Let's hope there are no frozen paws from this adventure! The trip then proceeds to skiing grounds with steep snowy slopes, cable cars, chair lifts and an Olympic ski jump! The pets can also turn their paws to snowboarding if they wish. The pets will meet a cute little critter also trying to ski. Back on board the train at the end of an action-packed day, the pets will have the thrill of seeing the Northern Lights as they travel home in the setting sun to that night's lodging. There they will enjoy a warming milky coffee and a bowl of hot soup by the wood-burning stove in the dining room, while admiring the snowy scene outside.
Dashing Through the Snow
While an aeroplane might get you to your final destination more quickly and efficiently, nothing can surpass the romance and sightseeing opportunities of a journey by train. Just try to make sure you get a window seat to capture the breath-taking views of snowy peaks!

Sasha and Max were chatting about the concept of hygge.
"Apparently the Dutch have a word for it, too," said Max. "Gezelligheid".
"I guess we could say 'cosiness', Max? Even if it's not quite the same?"

Cold, bracing snowy weather is grand in theory. However, if your paws start to go numb and the chill creeps its way through your fur, it can start to lose its attraction. The answer is a train journey, where you can look out across sweeping white vistas or forests of trees lightly trimmed with snow, without having to get your scarf on!

“I could stay here forever, Max,” said Ada. “This is an amazing place!”
“Well, you never know what lies ahead, Ada. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is even better!” said Max.

“You know what the best part of a day's skiing is, Mochi?" said Max.
"No, what?" replied Mochi.
"The après-ski!" replied Max.

Nowadays rinks of artificial ice are commonplace in all countries. In former times skating could only be enjoyed when the weather was cold enough to freeze a lake or river to thick ice, allowing skaters to enjoy a game of curling or ice hockey or just enjoy pirouetting on the chilly, frozen surface!

“I always worry the ice will give way beneath me on these frozen lake rinks, Yay!" said Max.
"The ICE is gonna BREAK!" replied Yay in a very passable Christopher Walken accent.
"That doesn't help allay my nerves," remarked Max somewhat distantly.

One benefit of travelling by train as opposed to by car is the fun of being able to relax in one's seat and watch the passing towns and countryside.

Steep Alpine Sweep
Being in the mountains has a huge benefit on both our physical and mental health. Skiers will talk about the adrenalin rush of the slopes but also the pleasure gained from being in nature and having social interaction. Beyond the physical benefits, exposure to the natural surroundings of the mountains during exercise appears to provide an additional boost to our psychological well-being and aids in recovering from stress.

After a tiring but exhilarating day on the slopes, it's time to doff our skis and enjoy the après ski evening, where we will cosily plot our next ski adventure! What plans we make! It's not necessary to have a lively party; a quiet hot milky coffee with two or three friends after a day's fun on the slopes gives us the chance to bond and get ready for the morrow's pleasures.

Max opened his rucksack to find his hat. Dante could see Max had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Dante asked Max.
Skiing Adventure Starts
You and your fellow pets may prefer to mostly ski together, but perhaps sometimes the more advanced skiers will tackle a challenging route down the mountain and you then meet at the bottom of the slope. A shared love and appreciation for snow makes for the perfect, spectacular and memorable holiday on the slopes.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Max!” said Astrid. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Max good-naturedly took charge of Astrid's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These she donned and then Max helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Stunning Snow Slope
What does skiing mean for you? Is it rising with the sun; having the exhilarating crisp mountain air hitting your face, making a unique wake-up call! Let's not forget the huge sense of freedom as your skis cut through freshly fallen powder, merrily zigzagging down the slopes whooping, laughing and joking, then sitting on a peaceful ski lift putting the world to rights against the stunning backdrop of Alpine views.

“I thought last night's house was amazing, Brigit," said Max.
"Yes, it was spacious yet so cosy at the same time, Max!" replied Brigit. "I loved the fire. It was so hyggelig!"

"Do you think we'll see a polar bear like we did on Snow Beach that time, MooDonna?" asked Max.
"Oh gosh, Max, do you remember those horrible jellyfish in the water there? I can't stand them!" responded MooDonna.

“I’ve come prepared for anything snowy, Tweety Pi,” responded Flutterbye. “There’s snowshoes, snow boots, Wellington boots, a pair of grippy things, some ear muffs—you name it, I’ve got it!”
