Antipodes is questing! Episode 1/25

The Mouse in Trousers is always ready to help a pet in need of advice. Antipodes went to see him, hoping for tips on how to win the Art Challenge. But whilst he was there, who should turn up but Sam the Turtle, renowned leader of the Power Pets Sports Club?

Antipodes is questing! Episode 2/25

"It's ok Sam, I've solved Antipodes's problem for him," said the MIT. "Come on in and tell me your woes."

"Thank you, I'll see you again whenever I have a problem," said Antipodes.

"No, please stay," said Sam. "I need advice from the mouse, but I am going to want everyone to know about my past mistakes, so I can begin opening up by letting you listen as well."

The mouse knew Sam well, and said nothing, but went to close the door.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 3/25

Sam explained what was on his mind. "I was heading for the Center of Excellence when a bright light shone on me, and a heavenly voice out of nowhere said, 'You have a daughter'. Sam paused, to see what the mouse would say. Antipodes gasped, but the mouse just raised an eyebrow.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 4/25

"I tried to think how I could possibly have a daughter," said Sam. "I remembered a wild weekend in Paris with a really classy Canada Goose. That was in 2002 ... before Pets 'n' Friends even existed! We got very ... close ... but the next day I had to leave the city. She said she would meet me at Orly airport, but she never turned up. I had to catch the plane. Now I feel bad; I made no effort to stay in touch."

Antipodes is questing! Episode 5/25

"Was that all the voice said?" asked the mouse.

"No," said Sam. "The voice also said I should follow the beans, but there were no beans to be seen. That's why I came to ask you what to do."

"This is simple!" said Antipodes. "I found a trail of magic beans today. I had already reported it to Missy before I came here, so there was no need to say anything. But I will gladly take Sam to the trail!"

Antipodes went out of the door, but the mouse laid a paw on Sam's shoulder and held him back. "This is a serious matter," said the mouse. "If you find your daughter, you must be ready to apologise to her, and she may be very angry with you. Do you really want everyone to know about this?"

"Your advice changed my life," said Sam. "I now know what it is to be cared about. I must accept my responsibilities or I may as well never come out of my shell again."

Antipodes is questing! Episode 7/25

Antipodes led Sam to the trail of beans. But by the time they got there, Sam was already tired. "I have been around a long while," he said. "I am very old for a pet. This trail goes on for miles. Will you help me to find my daughter? I will give you my last 20 GM if you lead me to her."

When Sam put it like that, Antipodes could hardly refuse.

So Antipodes and Sam set out to find his daughter, if indeed he really had one. Would you believe you had a daughter if a voice from the sky said so? But Sam just had to find out.

Antipodes and Sam eventually came to the end of the trail. Just beyond it was a gigantic beanstalk.

"What should we do now?" asked Antipodes. "Do you still think a voice spoke from the sky?"

They had not been there long when a rabbit wandered by. "Do all these beans come from this beanstalk?" asked Sam.

"What beans?" asked the rabbit. "I haven't seen any. If you want to see beans, you should climb the beanstalk. But there are Sky Trolls at the top. They are too heavy to come down, and I've got too much sense to climb up. If you mean to go up, I'm leaving!

The rabbit left. Sam turned to Antipodes. "Friend, you have done all I can ask of you," he said. "Take the 20 GM I promised you and go home. I will face the danger alone."

Antipodes thought how the old turtle was willing to brave dangers just to say he was sorry to someone who probably hated him; he could not leave old Sam to struggle up the beanstalk alone. "I'm coming. Keep the money, I want to see the view!" he said. Antipodes was too moved to say he wanted to help.

Oh, what a view it was! A light mist of rain continually fell from the cloud and created a permanent rainbow that shimmered over the lands below. Antipodes did not get to see much of the view, as he was too busy shoving on Sam's shell; the old turtle would never have made it without his help.

At the top of the beanstalk there were indeed more beans; heaps and heaps of them! Sam looked all around. At first he looked old and defeated. Then he shouted, "I have followed the beans!"

Antipodes was upset to see the old turtle make a fool of himself over a fantasy, but respect for his elders kept him from saying anything.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 14/25

Then out from behind the pile of beans came a purple otter. Before Antipodes or Sam could say anything, she threw her arms around Sam and cried out, "daddy!"

Antipodes had an enormous lump in his throat, and could not find the words to ask: how did the otter know Sam was her father?

Antipodes is questing! Episode 15/25

"I am Samantha," said the otter. "I was named after you!" "How ... how ... how ..." stuttered Sam. "Come and look," said Samantha.

On the other side of the pile of beans were the tools she used to set everything up. A cannon to fire beans, binoculars to watch out for Sam, a mirror to reflect the sun in his eyes, and a magical harp that could be heard speaking from miles away.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 16/25

"But why not just visit me and announce yourself?" asked Sam. "Would you have believed me?" she asked. Sam thought hard. "Well actually, no," he said. "Your message made me ask myself whether I might have a daughter."

"I was raised on the cloud by my mother," said Samantha. "She only told me about you when I turned 18 this week."

Antipodes is questing! Episode 17/25

"Where is she now?" asked Sam. "I'll show you," said Samantha. "But she's terrified." "Is she afraid of Sam?" asked Antipodes. "No, she's afraid of me!" said Samantha. "I've watched Power Pets for YEARS from up here. But she never told me Sam was my father until this week. I was so angry she went white with shock!"

As they approached Samantha's home, an old white goose rushed out of the house with a suitcase. "My dear!" shouted Sam; but she was gone before anyone could stop her.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 18/25

Sam was exhausted, so Samantha led him inside, whilst Antipodes considerately stayed outside. Inside, a baby Sky Troll was asleep in a cradle.

"Mother got a free home for taking care of him," Samantha explained. "They grow up very slowly."

"Did you help her?" asked Sam.

"No, he roars like thunder when he's hungry and I can't stand it," said Samantha. "So I went out every day with my binoculars to watch Power Pets."

They went outside again whilst Antipodes took care of the baby. "I would love to live up here and have a view like this," said Sam. "I am tired out. I can't face going down that beanstalk again."

To his surprise, Samantha asked him endless questions about Power Pets. As she did so, he realised she knew more about his job than he did!

Before long, the baby's father arrived. Sam was terrified, but Samantha showed no concern, so he accepted the giant was not as dangerous as he looked.

"Where is the goose?" asked the Sky Troll. "Why is a strange pet looking after my baby?"

"We don't know," said Samantha. "She has run away."

"Then I must find someone else!" thundered the troll.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 21/25

Suddenly Sam knew how to solve everyone's problems. "I missed out on caring for a child," he said. "I will take care of the baby. Samantha can take over Power Pets; she knows more about it than I do."

"But daddy ..." said Samantha.

"Just come and see me once a week, dear," said the old turtle. "And we can talk about the league tables together!"

So the happy ending arrived a bit early; but there was still much to do. Samantha was a natural athlete and Antipodes found himself being helped down the beanstalk by her!

When they reached the ground, Samantha was unsteady on her feet. She had spent her life walking on clouds. Solid ground took some getting used to! So Antipodes offered to show her the way to the Center of Excellence, as his home was near to it.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 24/25

Sam has never been happier. He can live out his whole retirement in free accommodation, as the baby will still be a baby for another hundred years. The view is wonderful, and whenever he wants to he can not only enjoy sport from the best free seat in existence, he can bask in the happiness that comes from seeing a daughter improve what her father started.

Antipodes is questing! Episode 25/25

When Antipodes and Samantha arrived at the Center of Excellence, she handed Antipodes the 20 GM Sam had promised her. Antipodes had quite forgotten about this!

A crowd gathered and wanted to know what had happened to Sam. They were getting angry and accused Samantha of capturing old Sam, when a voice spoke, seemingly from heaven; "this is my daughter, in whom I am well pleased." Some said it was Sam; the rest of the pets just ran home because they were too scared to argue!
