The recently-constructed Confederation Bridge allows easy access from New Brunswick to some of Canada’s finest beaches and best golf courses!

@ Solicitous Mum
“Ooh, it's just starting to drizzle, Noah!” said Choose a name. “Can you hold my torch and map while I dig out my Pac-a-Mac?"
Noah good-naturedly took charge of Choose a name's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a hotel key, some shopping receipts and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the Pac-a-Mac right at the bottom. This she donned and then Noah helped her put everything back in her rucksack.
Solicitous Mum
Another opportunity to meet a Canada Goose, with her offspring! In recent years, Prince Edward Island has been an important migration stop for the Canada Goose in both spring and autumn.

“I don't know how to pronounce half of these place names, Noah!” said Jubb Jubb ruefully.
"Never mind," said Noah. "We'll look them up when we get back!"

While Prince Edward Island is known for its splendid coastline and farming communities, its capital, Charlottetown, is home to Victorian government buildings and the modern Confederation Centre of the Arts, with a theatre and art gallery.

Beachcombing is a soothing activity which involves combing the shoreline to see what objects of interest you can see. This could be shells, pebbles, seaglass or even something more unusual! Beaches can be very specific in what they collect, due to currents, geography and offshore habitats. Some beaches are good for driftwood, others for mermaid’s purses.

“’Maple syrup is made from the xylem sap of maple trees. The trees most commonly used are sugar maple, red maple and black maple because of the high sugar content in the sap,’” read out Glenda Fluster from the brochure.
“It’s making me hungry, Glenda Fluster!” declared Noah. “Perhaps I’ll just nibble a corner of one of the maple syrup scones the hotel packed us for elevenses!”

“If there's time at the end when we get back to the hotel tonight, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Coffee said, offering Noah a maple syrup toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for herself.

"Do you think we'll see some elk like we did on Snow Beach that time, Plandemic?" asked Noah.
"Oh yes, we're bound to. Gosh, Noah, do you remember those sharks, and the octopus as well? Poor Fresco took one look and hid in the bottom of the boat!" responded Plandemic.
Canadian Blue Jay
The blue jay is found throughout most of Canada, with the exception of the far west of the country. It is the provincial bird of PEI. The blue jay’s vivid cobalt or azure-blue tail and wing feathers make an exotic contrast against brown leaves or green grass. However, these feathers are not truly blue, as blue pigment is unknown in birds. The blue jay’s feather colour results from refraction, or distortion, of light by a peculiar inner structure of the feather substance.

Sir Precious McPrance was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Noah unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking Sir Precious McPrance’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” said Sir Precious McPrance, irritated. “We’re about to pose on either side of this amazing scene—the picture will all be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”
Northern Cardinal
A great number of birds, including the Northern Cardinal and Blue Jay, have evolved to remain in Canada throughout the year. Many flock together, sometimes with other species, and huddle to help retain heat. This also reduces the need to watch out for predators. Most remain active by feeding on nuts, dried fruit, seeds, twigs and branches in the vegetation. Many of these species flock to bird feeders, where they supplement their diet with fatty items.

“What have you got in your tote bag, Zoot?” asked Noah. “It looks very full!”
“I’ve come prepared for anything, Noah,” responded Zoot. “There’s deck shoes, snowshoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, flippers, walking boots, Wellington boots—you name it, I’ve got it!”
Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia, which is Latin for "New Scotland", is home to the largest Scottish Gaelic-speaking community outside of Scotland and their flag is a reversal in colours of Scotland's, consisting of a blue saltire on a white field. Peggy's Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margarets Bay.

From across the road, Henry surveyed the current stop on their map. “Would you fancy living there, Noah?”
"Well, it's certainly a bit different to where we live," said Noah. "But I could get used to it, I daresay!"
Peggy's Point Lighthouse
Peggy's Point Lighthouse is an active lighthouse and an enduring image of Canada. Situated within Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, it is one of the busiest tourist attractions in the province and is a prime attraction on the Lighthouse Trail scenic drive. The lighthouse is operated by the Canadian Coast Guard and is situated on a granite outcrop at Peggy's Point, immediately south of the village and its cove. The red and white lighthouse is one of the most-photographed structures in Atlantic Canada and one of the most recognisable lighthouses in the world.

“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse like this one pictured in our itinerary in Nova Scotia? So romantic!" mused Noah, nibbling on a taffy lolly.
"Well, I don't know," said Scaredy Cat. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have to run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
Noah considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."

Imagine all the boating parties that have set off from this secluded location in Nova Scotia with its own tiny beach! It's just the thing for a leisurely rowing boat trip followed by a small barbecue!

Bras d'Or Lake
Bras d'Or Lake is an estuary in the centre of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. It has a connection to the open sea, and is tidal. It also has inflows of fresh water from rivers, making the brackish water a very productive natural habitat. It was designated the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2011.

Yarmouth is a port town in Nova Scotia, whose industries include fishing and tourism. It is the terminus of a ferry service to Portland, Maine. It was formerly a major shipbuilding centre.

When you've done rowing round the coastline in your colourful boat, pull up an equally colourful chair to relax by this small bay! Nova Scotia has an incredibly long coastline compared to its overall size due to all its ins and outs, so there are numerous tiny inlets and bays all around the island.

“Let's just drink in this scene, shall we, Noah?” suggested Pinotte, sinking down on a convenient tree stump.
Noah agreed it was well worth spending some time there!

Lighthouses are a common sight along the Nova Scotia coastline and remain an important symbol of the past. They beautifully highlight the picturesque coastal landscape. Some are open for viewing while others can be observed when passing on foot or on bicycle.
