Cheryl Squirl and the group visited the Café founded by confectioner Paul Fürst in 1890. Fürst created the now world-famous Salzburg Mozartkugel (pistachio, marzipan and nougat coated with chocolate), winning a gold medal for his product at the 1905 Paris exhibition.

The group then had a tour down the Getreidegasse, the bustling, charming heart of Salzburg's Old Town. Cheryl Squirl and the others met visiting pets from around the world. They all enjoyed the traditional inns and unique businesses steeped in history!

"Oh, Sue!" exclaimed Cheryl Squirl. "We've just met two fabulous unicorns in Salzburg! Time to party!" The group were at the Mirabell Palace, where unicorns guard the gate. The pets had great fun re­creating a well-known scene from The Sound of Music although they had trouble hitting those high notes!

Cheryl Squirl and her fellow guests on the Singletons' Romantic Salzburg tour enjoyed a light luncheon of Italian pasta with rocket and parmesan at a local Konditorei before the afternoon's events commenced.

One pet in the group ventured a little too far out on the wet stones to capture the perfect shot of the waterfall, and wailed for help! Cheryl Squirl carefully ventured over, slipping a few times, hung the pet's camera safely round her neck, then with both pets clutching paws, Cheryl Squirl guided her companion back to terra firma!

Visiting an old farmhouse where there had been a great deal of snow, Cheryl Squirl had to face her fears and press on when the terrain was really very difficult and scary!

The little group had a taste of skiing! Cheryl Squirl was extremely nervous, partly from a fear of looking a fool in front of the others, and partly because she thought she might lose control of her skis and go sliding helplessly down the slope! But she overcame her feelings of being scared and managed very well!

On a trip to the zoo they enjoyed banana milkshakes sitting round the penguin enclosure. One of the penguins in the group made friends with one of the zoo inhabitants!

The pets were taken on an evening coach tour. As the light started to dim, they stopped at the romantic Millstättersee to stretch their paws, flippers and wings, and to take photographs of the memorable scene.

Their guide explained that in Bad Hofgastein, well-being is the top priority, with forest bathing, yoga or thermal baths, and in summer & autumn, the area was a real hiking hotspot. The peaks around Bad Hofgastein rise to over 2,400 m (7875 feet). The Gastein cable cars take you up and right into the heart of the enchanting mountain world of the Hohe Tauern.

The guide said that on a summer's day the lake was a beautiful turquoise colour, and good for sailing and swimming. There were stunning views all around, even on this misty February evening. Cheryl Squirl felt very happy at being present at this wonderful lake with its sense of tranquillity.

This Baroque RC cathedral, in the Old Town, was rebuilt in the 17th C on the site of an existing building . The dome has a height of 108 feet. The bells were cast in 1628. Mozart was baptised here in 1756.

Leopoldskron Palace was one of the most important filming locations for The Sound of Music as the majestic palace and perfect lake view backdrop served as the primary filming location for all of the lake terrace scenes of the Von Trapp family home.

As the day drew to a close, the pets, many of them singing, more or less in tune, their favourite songs from The Sound of Music were driven back to the hotel for one final night before moving on.
