As they approached the waterfall, they heard a faint sound, like the whisper of the wind through leaves. It grew louder, and then they saw them—a pod of nar­whals, their long, spiral­ed tusks piercing the surface of a hidden under­ground lake. The creatures swam grace­fully, their eyes meet­ing the friends' with a curious gaze. The sight was so un­expected, so breath­takingly beautiful, that they forgot their fears and moved closer.

Jolie stepped forward, her voice a soothing balm. "Hello, my friends," she cooed. The narwhals, seemingly at ease with her gentle presence, swam closer. One even allowed her to stroke its velvety nose, its exhalations warm and misty in the cold air. The rest of the group watched in awe, their hearts swelling with joy.

Dotty, ever the intrepid explorer, suggested they follow the nar­whals. "Who knows what other secrets this place holds?" she said, her eyes shimmer­ing with excite­ment. With a collect­ive nod, they moved through the chamber, the whales lead­ing the way. The ice beneath their feet was slick, but the thrill of discovery propelled them forward.

The narwhals brought them to a hidden lagoon, the water a vibrant blue that seemed to pulse with life. Above, a shaft of light pierced the ceiling, illuminat­ing the area in a heaven­ly glow. The friends watch­ed in amaze­ment as the whales danced in the water, their tails creating a mesmeriz­ing pattern of ripples and light. Dash, unable to contain her excite­ment, took to the air, her song mingling with the splashes and sighs of the narwhals.

Dotty, quick on her feet, used her fiery breath to create a warm bubble around them, the ice hissing and steam­ing at the edges. They huddled together, sharing what warmth they could, as they caught their breath.

Their spirits lifted slightly; they began to discuss their options. "We could try climbing out," suggested Drive, his strong bear paws flexing. "But it's a long way up, and the ice is slippery."

They searched the ice walls, finding a thick, jagged out­cropping that looked stable enough. Working together, they tied the rope securely and began to climb, one by one. The narwhals watched, their eyes filled with what seemed like encourage­ment. The climb was treacher­ous, the ice cold and slick under their paws and claws. But the warmth of Dotty's fire and the know­ledge that they had each other's backs kept them going.

Once they reached the top, they realized they had only found them­selves in a larger chamber. The narwhals' whispers grew more insistent, lead­ing them to a narrow, icy tunnel. It was a tight fit, but with deter­mination, they squeezed through. On the other side, they found them­selves in a vast cavern, the air warmer and filled with the scent of pine.

The walls of the cavern were lined with totem poles, each one telling a story of the land and its inhabitants. The friends gazed upon them with reverence, feeling the weight of the history they bore. The others nodded in agreement, their eyes taking in the vibrant colors and lifelike depictions of animals and humans living in harmony. They look­ed back at the gaping hole in the glacier, now a tomb for the hidden chamber. The beauty of their discov­ery was tinged with awe at the power of nature they had just witnessed.

The villagers of Cordova, alerted by Larry's distress call, were wait­ing for them at the base of the mountain. The sight of their reliev­ed faces was like a warm blanket, and the friends felt their spirits lift. They re­counted their harrow­ing advent­ure, the narwhals' heroism, and the wonder of the ice cave. The towns­folk listen­ed in amaze­ment, their eyes wide with astonishment.
