New Hampshire State Flag
The flag of the state of New Hampshire consists of the state seal centred on a blue background. The Great Seal depicts the frigate USS Raleigh and is surrounded by a laurel wreath with nine stars. The Raleigh is one of the first 13 warships sponsored by the Continental Congress for a new American navy, built in 1776, at Portsmouth. The seal is surrounded by a laurel wreath. The wreath is an ancient symbol of fame, honour, and victory. The nine stars within the wreath show that New Hampshire was the ninth state to join the Union. The water stands for the harbour of Portsmouth, and in the yellow-coloured spit of land is granite, a strong igneous rock, representing both New Hampshire's rugged landscape and the sturdy character of her people.

Peeper and Casper shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Peeper. “Let’s change sides.”

Thick cloud cover is soon to change to stormy weather and bring a chilly autumn rain over the White Mountains, soaking the dry earth one last time. Who knows, the next time precipitation comes it might be the white stuff blanketing the earth for a winter's nap.

"Our tour leader was saying this morning that although English is the most widely spoken language of the USA, more than 350 other languages are spoken regularly, the most common being Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese and French," remarked Melinda.

“I’ve come prepared for anything, Peeper,” responded Alvin. “There’s canvas deck shoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, sandshoes, walking boots, sandals, loafers—you name it, I’ve got it!”

A rock formation in Franconia Notch State Park is featured on the state's commemorative quarter. The face of the Old Man of the Mountain has since collapsed but the beauty of the White Mountain area is still unmatched.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Peeper!” said Mr. Dylan. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Peeper good-naturedly took charge of Mr. Dylan's possessions while he emptied his rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These he donned and then Peeper helped him put everything back in his rucksack.

New Hampshire is home to one of the windiest places on earth. Sitting at the top of a 6,289-foot peak is the Mount Washington Observatory. In 1934, a wind speed of 231 miles per hour at the observatory once held the record for highest wind speed ever recorded. Mount Washington is still considered to be one of the windiest places on earth.

Surprisingly, Garwin Falls is situated on private property so access is limited. Some residents have found trash along the trails and have had to reduce the number of parking spots. The local police issue tickets to visitors parking illegally. Come on, we can do better! Please don't spoil our beautiful areas!

Another name for New Hampshire is the White Mountain State, which is based on the forested white mountain range that covers almost a quarter of the state’s land.

Peeper and Fancy had shaken paws and took some time to enjoy the super view in a companionable silence!

Newcastle is the smallest and easternmost town in New Hampshire and the only one located entirely on islands! You will definitely find that a little boat like this one will come in very handy. Climb in and leisurely paddle around and take in all the misty early morning loveliness. It is home to Fort Constitution Historic Site, Fort Stark Historic Site, and the New Castle Common, a 31-acre (13 ha) recreation area on the Atlantic Ocean. New Castle is also home to a United States Coast Guard station, as well as the historic Wentworth by the Sea hotel.

John Paul Jones House, Portsmouth, NH
One of Portsmouth, New Hampshire's many historic buildings is the John Paul Jones House. It is the only known structure connected to the Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones. Built in 1758 by famed African-American master housewright, Hopestill Cheswell, it was a boarding house owned by a widow, Sarah Purcell. John Paul Jones boarded there from 1781 to 1782.
