Antonym and Missy are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
On her way round The Autumn Experience, Lady Jane bumped into Antonym. They both paused to drink in the beautiful scene before them before going on to the next location.

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
"frisky, just take a look all around you and breathe deeply! Get that good fresh air in your lungs! Does it get any better than this?" asked Antonym, who had just met frisky at this Autumn Experience stop.

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
On his way round The Autumn Experience, Coal bumped into Antonym. They both paused to drink in the beautiful scene before them before going on to the next location.

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
The quiet and serenity of the next scene made Antonym and Draco feel like they were the only pets left in PnF Land ...

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Inspired by the sunny day, Angel said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Antonym took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Angel hastily revised her romantic harvest vision.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
“Time to move on and shake the next paw!” observed Antonym. Paws agreed, but said she was going to stay here awhile and collect pine cones.

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Antonym to Tasi.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Antonym to milo.

@ Nectar Delight
“What’s this flower called?” Antonym said to VV. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said VV and hastily changed the subject.

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

“What’s this flower called?” Antonym said to Ari. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Ari and hastily changed the subject.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
Katrice greeted Antonym cheerily, recommending she expended some silver moles on the fresh harvest food before them.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
Antonym tumbled out of the Autumn Experience tourist bus, almost flattening Snowball in the process, then she wondered where the muffled groans were coming from!

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Antonym. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Cutsiebebe sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

@ Perfect Spot for a Campsite
Flatts nearly stumbled over Antonym, who was lying full length on the grass. “I was wishing I’d brought my watercolours,” said Antonym. “This just cries out to be painted!”

@ Juicy Blackberries
jimkitty and Antonym, after shaking paws, admired the crop of harvest produce in front of them. “I didn’t know it looked like that just after harvest,” said Antonym. “I’ve only seen it in the shops!”

"This is a glorious specimen, Jewels", observed Antonym. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Antonym?" said Jewels. "Buy a garden gnome!"

“I hope we can buy more of this at our local farmer's market,” observed Antonym, as she and Vinny the collector tucked into a delicious food sample!

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

"Catalina, was that last one we looked at a thorn bush with roses? Or a rose bush with thorns?" asked Antonym.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

Garth bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Garth?” asked Antonym.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Garth.

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Jillie.
"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Antonym. "Is he on this tour?"

@ Teasels and Carnations
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Antonym to Bindy.
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.

Alexander bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Alexander?” asked Antonym.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Alexander.

A sea of red leaves act as the perfect backdrop to showcase yet another patch of little blue berries. I'm not hungry so I'll leave these for another traveler.

Antonym is enjoying the Autumn Experience when Sophia comes along. "Look! A special prize!" says Sophia. Antonym looks down and sees something valuable. Sophia generously lets Antonym keep it!
