The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

“I’ve written a postcard to my aunty to tell her about our amazing safari!” said Flower. “She’ll wish she was here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Fluffy shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, Flower. How remiss of them!” Seeing Flower’s ears beginning to droop, Fluffy added, “Don’t worry, you can give your card to reception at the hotel to post.”

Suzie groaned, clutching her stomach. "Oh, my poor tum. Why are so many of these places only accessible by boat? I've never been a good sailor, you know."
"Never mind, Suzie," sympathised Flower. "It's ages till we set off back, and with lots of walking around visiting the different creatures, you'll feel as right as rain in no time!"

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, Flower!” said Rhian. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
Flower good-naturedly took charge of Rhian's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then Flower helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

“You never know what sort of critter to expect next, do you, Fancy?" whispered Flower. “You know, small, cute and furry or really quite, um, large, with—er—very sharp teeth.” Fancy reassured Flower that all the critters were looking forward to meeting them, regardless of size, furriness, attractiveness and/or pointiness of teeth.

My brilliant plumage has also earned me the nickname of Rainbow Pheasant, and my gorgeous array of feathers originally hailed from China, but you'll find that we were a desired export, and have adapted well to other places!

Choose a name joined in Flower's heartless laughter. “He was still brushing bits of nettle out of his fur when we went for lunch!”

Nocturnal by nature, you'll find me hiding by day in the dark leafy greens in your garden. We tried to ramp up our street cred by saying we were vampires, but we lacked the fangs to back up the claim.

Spoty glanced up from his tour guide, in which he had been looking up where they were going the next day. “How come you're so hungry, Flower?”
Flower pouted. "I was just unwrapping my lunch pack when a creature ran down the tree behind me, grabbed the lot and shot back up the tree!"
"Bad luck!" sympathised Spoty. "Here, have a banana to keep you going."

Somewhere there's a blue anteater hanging around with a pink panther, but that's now who I am, although, I really do love ants! You'll find me in the rainforest, slurping up ants like a pro!

Valley Between the Hills
The hidden valley between these hills is a popular locale for the smaller pets of PnF. Housing a city most pets overlook, the tiny prints of pets have made history with the largest tiny museum, art gallery, and comedy club in existence.

Flower has enjoyed meeting "Exotic" pets, but it is time to go home now! All Creatures Great and Small is over now, but there will be more events in PnF soon!
