The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

“Do you remember our last safari, strips?” exclaimed Tennessee Tuxedo. "I remember being really quite scared, trying to find the way out of that labyrinth in the dark!"
strips agreed. “D'you remember that scorpion? It was quite a shock coming across him in the light of the dim and flaring lamps, although he turned out to be very nice in the end.”
"It's hard to believe that was two years ago, strips," remarked Tennessee Tuxedo.

If I just hang on lightly, I can catch those little tidbits floating on by. I blend right into the sea grasses, no one will suspect a thing!

“I’ve written a postcard to my aunty to tell her about our amazing safari!” said Tennessee Tuxedo. “She’ll wish she was here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Shadow shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, Tennessee Tuxedo. How remiss of them!” Seeing Tennessee Tuxedo’s ears beginning to droop, Shadow added, “Don’t worry, you can give your card to reception at the hotel to post.”

Waddling in the cool waters off the coast of South Africa, dressed up in their best black tie, the little penguins keep a sharp eye out on the waves, you never know when you'll have a surprise visitor!

“You never know what sort of critter to expect next, do you, Audra?" whispered Tennessee Tuxedo. “You know, small, cute and furry or really quite, um, large, with—er—very sharp teeth.” Audra reassured Tennessee Tuxedo that all the critters were looking forward to meeting them, regardless of size, furriness, attractiveness and/or pointiness of teeth.

Tennessee Tuxedo pouted. "I was just unwrapping my lunch pack when a creature ran down the tree behind me, grabbed the lot and shot back up the tree!"
"Bad luck!" sympathised Lady. "Here, have a banana to keep you going."

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, Tennessee Tuxedo!” said Unitee. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
Tennessee Tuxedo good-naturedly took charge of Unitee's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then Tennessee Tuxedo helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Khisanth was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Tennessee Tuxedo unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking Khisanth’s sunhat off.
“Put that away, do!” said Khisanth, in some irritation. “We’re about to pose with this amazing creature—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

Translucent in color, these colorful creatures anchor themselves to the roots and rocks in the warm waters in the Indian River. Just don't startle them, they don't respond well!
