Esmerelda and Choose a name have been given a free map to help them enjoy their Winter Tour! Before unfolding it, they read the cover:
Boats & Bergs
On the only island part of the tour, the pets are picked up at the landing stage by a horse-drawn sleigh and are driven through snowy pines to board their awaiting boat which will take them on the main part of the day's adventure. They will see mountains, icebergs, fun little sandy or rocky coves, swathes of trees lining the coast, snowy island villages and will be enthralled towards the end by the tale of the spooky Troll Lake ... those of a nervous disposition will find exploring the night's accommodation will lift their spirits however! It is a beautiful house with a log fire to warm their paws by while they wind down for the night with mugs of hot chocolate.

@ Sunrise Wood
"This is fabulous, Sweetie," enthused Esmerelda. "I'll have this photo printed and framed and display it next to my ceramic puffin that I got in the little gift shop near Snow Beach and the model lighthouse from Transcia!"
"You'll have a fine collection of mementos, Esmerelda!" said Sweetie.

Picture the quiet of this wood as you travel through it, the sleigh following previous tracks, the only sounds in the stillness being the muffled clop of the horses' hooves, the jingle of the harness and the swish of the runners through the snow.

@ Ornate Ice Shards
Esmerelda opened her rucksack to find her hat. Cheerling could see Esmerelda had a beret, a balaclava, a cricket cap, a Tam o' Shanter, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a Peruvian chullo!
“Did you bring a Stetson too?” Cheerling asked Esmerelda.
Ornate Ice Shards
The sheer perfection of these shards of ice under magnification show the beauty of Mother Nature's design! Each shard stands like an ornate little spear or pinnacle, yet is made of nothing but frozen water!

@ Snow Scene Sunrise
“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get as seasick as he did that time on Crocodile Creek, Esmerelda!” said Mandy.
"Well, he's in good company, Mandy," replied Esmerelda. "Admiral Nelson was a chronic sufferer, as well as Horatio Hornblower."
"Hornblower was fictional, Esmerelda!" Mandy pointed out.
"Well—whatever," responded Esmerelda. "It took time for him to get his sea legs on every trip."
Snow Scene Sunrise
The start of a new winter day, with the sun rising and reflecting off the snow crystals which clad the ground, making them glitter in the early morning. Later on, perhaps the snow on the benches will have melted and be occupied by pets taking a rest from their winter snow activities.

@ Lonesome Road
"It's turned a bit cold, Esmerelda, I'm going to put my beanie hat on," said Sunshine.
"Good scheme! I'll dig my scarf out as well," said Esmerelda.

This road stretches for mile after endless mile but with that breath-taking mountain view to admire, the time will fly past!

@ Snowboat
“If there's time at the end when we get back to our accommodation, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Aki said, offering Esmerelda a toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for himself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Aki!" said Esmerelda.

This sturdy bateau will take the icy waters in her stride and all a pet has to do is find the best vantage point for admiring the scenes all around! Oh, and keep out of the captain's way, of course!

@ Grey Peaks
Specks was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Esmerelda unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Specks’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Specks. “We’re about to pose beside this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up PDQ!”

Looming up ahead out of the water are the stern, forbidding, desolate peaks shrouded in mist that clearly show the harsh landscape in wintertime.

@ No Battenberg

@ Still Silent Hills
“You know, I'd like to spend a whole week here, Esmerelda!” said MooCow.
"It's very nice indeed—but you never know, the next leg of the tour might be even better!" said Esmerelda.

The autumnal hues of trees on these crags turn slowly to winter foliage and the snowy peaks above them brood down over them in the absolute stillness of water.

@ Idylllic Waterway Retreat
“It would be great fun to camp in the snow overnight, wouldn't it, Flutter?” said Esmerelda."In the morning you'd fill your kettle with snow and boil it suspended from a tripod of sticks, like they do in books."
Flutter shivered. “What books, Esmerelda? Those written by Baden-Powell? I think I'd rather have my creature comforts indoors, thank you."
Idylllic Waterway Retreat
What a blissfully idyllic place this would be to live! Imagine steering your boat from place to place and berthing at a landing stage rather than a driveway! With its backdrop of white-topped mountains, a foreground of peaceful waterway, and distinctive houses plus a church with a high steeple, this is certainly a lovely place.

"Wasn’t it worth coming all this way, Esmerelda," said Isabella, "for this experience alone?"

'Ware rocks, ahoy! This cove, fringed with prominent boulders, is perfect for dipping your paws, wings or flippers into when the tide is out. When the tide is full, Rocky Cove offers up brilliant snorkelling opportunities, if the sea is calm enough.

“You know, I'd like to spend a whole week here, Esmerelda!” said Flora.

"Remember when Foxy leant too far over the bridge in Meadowlands that time, and fell in the pond with a huge splash, Ladybug?" asked Esmerelda. "My stomach muscles ached for days, I laughed so much!"

Brrrr! A lot of pets would baulk at taking a dip in this lake, with patches of ice floating on top! But wrap up warm, and it's the perfect spot for tarrying a while, as the ripples from the birds' feeding activities spread outwards and the light starting to fade a little from the sky.

“So what do you reckon, Esmerelda, one of these red houses or one of these brown houses?” asked Bentley.
"Oh, you can't beat a solid little grey stone house, Bentley!"

There's plenty of space on deck in the open air for those pets willing to brave the chill wind! Otherwise there are plenty of seats in the covered lounge area below. But make sure you emerge in time to wave to the welcoming party on terra firma!

“A picture of this would look lovely printed on Christmas cards, wouldn't it, Esmerelda?” Paxton said.

The snow-clad mountains are perfectly mirrored in the still, calm grey waters of the lake. This wintry lake has the clear transparency of quartz and is a place to meditate.

"It's great to have another boat trip, isn't it, Esmerelda?" said Emerald, studying the route map.
“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get seasick like he did at Crocodile Creek!" replied Esmerelda. "Hang on, where are those Kwells?"

We note the Norwegian influence on this spooky body of water—Troll Lake! Who knows what legends have been passed down over the centuries ... watch out if you dip your paws or flippers in there, especially after sunset and the lake is shrouded with mist!

A scene of chocolate box prettiness! Night-time in an Alpine village, under a clear starry night with snow thickly coating the roofs of chalets and pine trees with snowy peaks in the distance. It's time to hunker down by the wood burning stove with hot drinks and raclette.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Esmerelda!” said red Christmas Candy. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Esmerelda good-naturedly took charge of red Christmas Candy's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These she donned and then Esmerelda helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

Grace and Space
Everypet will love curling up on the fluffy rug in front of the fire in this sophisticated setting. What is in that tempting present underneath the tree? Let's hope it's clearly labelled!

Esmerelda was very happy to meet Midnight Majesty here! They shook paws and both swapped tales of their experiences of their travels so far!

Esmerelda is tired out and ready to go home when Choose a name comes along. "Wow! You find a special prize!" says Choose a name. Esmerelda turns round and found it was just behind them!

Enticing Mug of Hot Chocolate
Mmmm! Just the thing to sip before retiring for the night, a mug of milky hot chocolate. To help wind down, it helps to read a chapter of a good book (but nothing too exciting!).
