"I think there'll be quite a few tired paws, wings and flippers when we get back to the tour bus," said Alexander, after he and Gisela had spent some time exploring another rural pathway to its end and meeting nearby inhabitants.
"Is there a gift shop at the end?" enquired Gisela. "The thought of that generally keeps me going."

“Did you see what happened to Foxy earlier, Sage?” exclaimed Gisela. "He was balancing on a log trying to take a selfie with one of the critters we met, and it rolled over and pitched him into a bank of nettles!"
Sage joined in Gisela's heartless laughter. “He was still brushing bits of nettle out of his fur when we went for lunch!”

Punky shielded her eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, Gisela. How remiss of them!” Seeing Gisela’s ears beginning to droop, Punky added, “Don’t worry, you can give your card to reception at the hotel to post.”

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, Gisela!” said Abby. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
Gisela good-naturedly took charge of Abby's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This she donned and then Gisela helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

"Oh, I couldn't resist going to that street exhibition of art by local pets. I grabbed a cheese and onion pasty from a street vendor. Anyway, what did you both have to eat?"
"We had celery soup and a sandwich each. It was great!" responded Mitsy.

My brilliant plumage has also earned me the nickname of Rainbow Pheasant, and my gorgeous array of feathers originally hailed from China, but you'll find that we were a desired export, and have adapted well to other places!

Nocturnal by nature, you'll find me hiding by day in the dark leafy greens in your garden. We tried to ramp up our street cred by saying we were vampires, but we lacked the fangs to back up the claim.
