In this part of the travel game, the pets delve into Bohemian culture in the area of the city that draws painters, writers, musicians, sculptors and others who express themselves through art. Whether the pets spend time discussing philosophy in one of the many quaint bars or observing the creation of a masterpiece in a tiny, paint splattered studio apartment, or viewing huge graffiti pictures, they will wind up their visit with a trip to some underground cellars before ending the day with the opportunity to purchase some flowers or an elaborately decorated ridotto mask!

"Oh, I like the piece hanging on this wall," said Pokey enthusiastically. "Look at the undulating yet regular metalwork, and the lovely shade of magnolia that it's been painted in."
Chickee-Dee snorted. ”That's the radiator, Pokey!" she said.

"I don't know, Chickee-Dee,” THUMPER said. “I don't know anything about art. I don't even know what I like!”

Sonic stood open-mouthed before the attraction in front of himself and Chickee-Dee. “That's actually pretty good, isn't it, Chickee-Dee?” he said. Chickee-Dee agreed.

Torch and Chickee-Dee paused to watch a pavement artist painting the portrait of one of their fellow-travellers. “Hi, Foxy!” called out Chickee-Dee excitedly.
Startled, the artist dropped his loaded brush on the ground, sending drops of paint flying in Torch and Chickee-Dee's direction!

A narrow street just made for wandering down and dropping into wherever you come across that looks interesting, be it a bar, studio or shop. Fun spots can be random and ramshackle!

Shamika examined the wares in the art supply shop. “I feel inspired, Chickee-Dee,” she said. “I think I'll take up painting as a hobby. It can't be that difficult, surely?”

From across the road, Enterbeauty a name for this pet eyed the attraction they had just left. “I don't know, Chickee-Dee,” she said. “Would you call that art?”
"Oh yes, I daresay," said Chickee-Dee airily. “We just don't understand it, I expect.”

Wooden barrels made by skilled artisans and their perfect seasoning with Sherry wines creates a container without equal. In Spanish a barrel is called a “tonel” and the weight of a full barrel is 1 ton. It is the same in English where the origin of the word “ton” is “tun” a wooden wine vessel. A tonelada referred to the space needed for a tonel of liquid in a ship.

"Oh, Angus McGregor, you need to really feel and appreciate the different textures!" replied Chickee-Dee, a trifle condescendingly.
Angus McGregor sniffed. ”That's like saying you should butter your toast with your bare paw," he said. “You know, really appreciate those crumby, buttery textures (!)”

These small windows are a delightful mix of ornate metal decoration contrasting with the smooth curves of the earth tone frames, all set off by the duck egg blue of the walls. This soft greenish blue stems from the first discovery of a blue pigment in the 18th century, which was then lightened with white.

Here the surface qualities of the water play a fundamental role in giving the composition of the architecture a final effect—acting in this case not as a perfect mirror but by giving a diffuse touch to the colour and texture of the reflected houses.

Clover scrabbled in his rucksack for his folding camping chair. “What are you doing with that, Clover?” asked Chickee-Dee. “There's a lot of the tour left to go!”
"I just want to stay here a little while and chill out to the sound of that heavenly mandolin. You go ahead if you want, I'll catch you up!" said Clover.

This beautiful remnant of thick stone wall of earth tones with its arch over weatherbeaten yet ornate wooden doors serve as a proud rejection of the characterless and purely utilitarian. As William Morris said: "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

Well-worked graffiti art is typically bold, creative and colourful. It changes the character of the area where it appears. In many cases this is positive, since graffiti art can turn dull monotone buildings and bare walls into interesting and eye-catching exhibitions of the imagination. High-quality graffiti contained within a particular area can raise that neighbourhood's profile as an arts scene. In time, other artists flock there, and the cultural value of the area is increased. This can in the long-term aid the local economy, as tourists head to the area to look at the graffiti, and locally-run tours pop up to show visitors around.

"I think there'll be quite a few tired paws, wings and flippers when we get back to the tour bus," said Beatrice, after she and Chickee-Dee had spent some time exploring another long, narrow alleyway to its end. "Is there a gift shop at the end? The thought of that generally keeps me going."

Stained glass is an art form that has been in use since mediaeval times and we tend to associate it with church windows, a riot of bright colours illustrating a narrative. This example has the feel of industrial architecture about it, with its regular rectangular glass panes and muted colours but is nonetheless beautiful.

Baa❤️Baa looked round eagerly. "Chickee-Dee, I'll roll that barrel over here and we can both stand on it and take a selfie with this arty background behind us."
Chickee-Dee was dubious. "That barrel top might break under our combined weight and plunge us into a vat of sherry! Why don't we stand on those stairs instead?"
Baa❤️Baa could be heard muttering that they could drink their way out, but headed towards the steps.

Chickee-Dee and Leena shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Chickee-Dee. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Leena. “This is my best side.”

Wide, sweeping, traditional stairs, ultra-modern floating steps, brightly painted, perspex, see-through risers, steps that provide storage or perhaps steps that light up? “I don't know, Choco," mused Chickee-Dee, chewing a toffee. “When I see flaky paint I scrape it down with a putty knife, then get the Polyfilla out to repair any cracks, prime it, let it dry and then repaint it. Perhaps I should leave it a couple of decades and call it art.”

Casper bent down to pick up a carelessly discarded sweetie wrapper and made to put it in the bin. "Be careful, Casper!" cried out Chickee-Dee hiding a grin. "That's probably part of someone's art installation."
"Oh tosh, Chickee-Dee. It's a sweet wrapper."
Chickee-Dee looked amused. "A surprising number of entire art exhibitions are thrown away by the cleaners assuming they're rubbish, you know."

Handmade by Italian artisans, the Venetian masquerade or Joker mask has a long history. Venice is a city of romance and high fashion and the masks have always held a sense of mystery.
