Episode 1/25

@ Tunnel of Maple Trees
Silky and Jeff are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Amber
Autumn has well been described by Keats as the "Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" and pets will here enjoy a ramble through woods with tumbling golden and orange leaves. They can gather hazelnuts, horse chestnuts and fruits, and perhaps forage for mushrooms and dill. Then there are vast fields of wild flowers to explore, and an opportunity to admire the sunset while resting by a rustic barn. Watch your paws or claws crossing the river on the stepping stones—but perhaps splashing in the swirling water is part of the fun!

As you near this autumn realm and hear the thunder of the falls close by, you get to walk through a vividly colorful tunnel of maple leaves with the light of the evening sun at the tunnel's end to attract you further.

“Time to move on and shake the next paw!” observed Silky. Flu Flu agreed, but said she was going to stay here awhile and collect pine cones.

As you step out of the tunnel of fall-colored leaves, you are greeted with even more beauty to behold as you see flowers silhouetted by the setting sun. Now you know that the day's journey is almost done!

@ Sunset Across the Field
“I’ve written a postcard to Mrs Eucalyptus about this amazing Autumn Experience!” said Silky. “She’ll wish she were here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Mystic shielded her eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t know how it comes about, but they appear not to have thought to provide a postbox here, Silky. How remiss of them!” Seeing Silky’s ears beginning to droop, Mystic added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the Experience!”

As you look further past where you are now standing, you see a vast farm field to cross with welcoming trees and hillsides awaiting.

You pause for a moment to make sure that the pictures you've been taking of your breath-taking journey today have been capturing what your eyes have been seeing. Even though there is so much beauty for just two eyes to take in, you are pleased with your photos thus far, especially of the light at the end of the tunnel of maple trees!

@ Handful of Horse Chestnuts
Silky and Choose a name shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Silky?” said Choose a name.

Not only were you enveloped with maple trees, but you also saw some chestnut trees mixed within, and so you grabbed a handful of chestnuts as a souvenir!

@ Bouquet of Fall Flowers
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Silky to Bear.

As you left the woods, with another tree line to your left, you noticed some large blooms of wildflowers along the edge of the trees, and so you picked a few to spruce up your room when you settle in later in the evening.

@ Fragile Flowers
Silky and Hester shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Silky. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Hester. “This is my best side.”

As you continue through the field, you choose to leave the daintier purple flowers alone, simply enjoying their fragrance and their beauty in the evening sun.

“Isn’t this amazing, Henry?” declared Silky. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

With all of the flowers you are admiring, you almost forgot the ones you picked up in the autumn realm of green that morning. You check to be sure they are still fresh - and they are! - and remember that you have a note to fill out for tonight's host.

@ Wild White Mushrooms
“Hey, Coal!” called out Silky. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Coal was glad to rest and enjoy the food Silky shared with him.

Continuing on the path, you notice along the tree line something white. Not sure if you were seeing flowers, you approach and find that they are wild mushrooms, the edible kind, and so you grab a few to add to a possible stew later in the evening!

@ Path Covered by Fallen leaves
Silky and Patches agreed that the variety of scenery on their Autumn Experience trip was the best ever! They exchanged opinions on which their favourite scene had been so far, and which was the most delicious harvest food they had eaten in their travels!

“What’s this flower called?” Silky said to Esmerelda. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Esmerelda and hastily changed the subject.

Silky normally avoided tourist hotspots but she was glad she had come, especially since meeting her friend Aussie here!

As you look to your left, with the waterfall thundering to your right, you see how swiftly the river runs past you as you ensure you have enough stepping stones to get across. One wrong step and you may be staying somewhere further south than you planned!

“Hey, Melinda!” called out Silky. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Melinda was glad to rest and enjoy the food Silky shared with her.

As you settle in on your second rock in your river crossing, you remember that your host from last night in the autumn realm of green gave you fresh oranges plucked right off of a tree in their own backyard! Time to get refreshed!

@ Fallen Leaves Floating By
PluttiPott was hailed by Silky, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, PluttiPott!” said Silky. “I could stay here for hours!”

As you make your way to the next rock, you noticed flower blooms and leaves floating by. The leaves may have fallen from trees and were blown into the water, perhaps before the waterfall. You stretch out your paw and snag a twig of orange-colored leaves to stick out of your backpack!

@ Plucked Flowers Floating By Too!
“What’s this flower called?” Silky said to COVID-19. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said COVID-19 and hastily changed the subject.

After you cross to your next rock, with the shore almost within reach, you decide to add to your collection of souvenirs by grabbing some of the plucked blooms floating by and wrapping them in paper for safe keeping. These were put in the water by young pets in the autumn realm of green, hoping they would float and float for a long distance.

@ Plenty of Nuts
Silky and TenderTeddy shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Silky?” said TenderTeddy.

As you jump and thump from rock to rock, you check your supply of hazelnuts after noticing you hadn't closed your container as well as you thought! Whew! Most are still there!

@ Red and Yellow Flower
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Sasha" said Silky. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Silky! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

As you land on the last rock, you notice a huge bloom coming your way on the water. It bumps into the rock, making it an easy grab with your paw!

@ Almost there!
Silky was in a hurry to move along and shake some more paws, but maddie moo decided to stay where she was for a while, and sketch the scenery for this week's Art Challenge!

As you step onto the shore, you continue to enjoy the sunset and notice the host home close by! What a welcome sight after a long, but joyful day of hiking into a new realm!

"Woolly, was that last one we looked at a thorn bush with roses? Or a rose bush with thorns?" asked Silky.

As you pass this patch of growth, you pluck a few sprigs in hopes of decorating up the doorway or the table of the home where you'll lay your head down soon.

"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked Moon Dancer.
"Well," said Silky, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."

Silky is enjoying the Autumn Experience when Sheba comes along. "Look! A special prize!" says Sheba. Silky looks down and sees something valuable. Sheba generously lets Silky keep it!
