@ PnF Meeting House
Ayereen and Lunaray are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...

Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Ayereen and Mrs. Dylan had shaken paws and took some time to enjoy the super view in a companionable silence!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
On his way round The Autumn Experience, Oliver bumped into Ayereen. They both paused to drink in the beautiful scene before them before going on to the next location.

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Ayereen and Silk were so rapt gazing at the scenery they almost forgot to shake paws before moving on to the next stage!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Ayereen and Laila Lu, having shaken paws, got so engrossed in conversation about the beautiful scenery that they had to hurry along so as not to be left behind! They regretfully bade au revoir and auf Wiedersehen to each other!

The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
“I hope we can buy more of this at our local farmer's market,” observed Ayereen, as she and Choose a name tucked into a delicious food sample!
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
On his way round The Autumn Experience, Rex bumped into Ayereen. They both paused to drink in the beautiful scene before them before going on to the next location.

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Ayereen and Snickerdoodle shook paws, said “How do you do?” and posed for a souvenir photo. “Why am I always on the left?” grumbled Ayereen. “Let’s change sides.”
“No,” said Snickerdoodle. “This is my best side.”

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“I’m going to ask if I can take a cutting of this,” Choose a name said to Ayereen. “This would look just fine in a half barrel in my front garden!”

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Ayereen. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Aussie sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

This stunning magenta floral specimen is a real show-stopper! It's simply 'mauvelous,' isn't it!

@ Nectar Delight
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Aki" said Ayereen. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Ayereen! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

@ Red Berries
“Isn’t this amazing, Midnight?” declared Ayereen. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“These are great as a cake flavouring,” said Ayereen.
“You can add it to savoury dishes as well. It’s very versatile,” observed Brown Bobby.

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

@ Magnificent Maple
“I’ve written a postcard to Mrs Eucalyptus about this amazing Autumn Experience!” said Ayereen. “She’ll wish she were here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Max shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t know how it comes about, but they appear not to have thought to provide a postbox here, Ayereen. How remiss of them!” Seeing Ayereen’s ears beginning to droop, Max added, “Don’t worry, you can post your card after this leg of the Experience!”

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"This is a glorious specimen, S'not", observed Ayereen. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Ayereen?" said S'not. "Buy a garden gnome!"

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

Ayereen normally avoided tourist hotspots but she was glad she had come, especially since meeting her friend Belle IbKat here!

“You know, Cicero said 'If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need',” mused Iolanthe.

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
MELODEE and Ayereen counted out their silver moles and bought some of the harvest food. “That one wins first prize for me!” declared MELODEE.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

@ Red and Purple Leafy Vine
“My uncle grows these in his back garden,” observed Ayereen.
“Wow! He must surely have green fingers!” replied Mittens.

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

Artic and Ayereen shook paws and then they both admired the magnificent floral display beside them.

Two beautiful waterlily dahlias in a vase create the perfect simple, yet elegant look. The stunning large blooms need no other adornment.

@ Colorful Berries
“What’s this flower called?” Ayereen said to Flipper. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Flipper and hastily changed the subject.

@ Teasels and Carnations
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Ayereen to Tundra.
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
