The flag of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations dates from King Charles II colonial times and was officially adopted in 1897, with minor changes. The flag comprises a white field, with thirteen golden stars, representing the original thirteen colonies and the fact Rhode Island was the thirteenth and last colony to sign the Declaration of Independence. The state motto, "HOPE", is written with golden letters in a blue ribbon, below a golden anchor, that also represents hope, in reference to Biblical phrase "Hope we have as an anchor of the soul" (Hebrews 6:18-19).

My pets are in awe of these beautiful eggs—they would love to try to paint their own one year. Easter and spring are times of joy as the earth awakens, plants are pushing forth from the soil, and the days are becoming warmer. Many baby animals are born in the spring, and life is burgeoning. May these eggs bring you joy and be a reminder of the earth renewing itself.

Built in 1880 Channing Memorial Church, Rhode Island, was named for William Ellery Channing, a leader in the Unitarian Church and the abolitionist movement. Julia Ward Howe, author of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic", attended this church.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cold, Rowland!” said Sabrina. “Can you hold my map while I dig out my gloves?"
Rowland good-naturedly took charge of Sabrina's possessions while she emptied her rucksack of a pack of sandwiches, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of toffees, a paperback novel, a bottle of mineral water, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old train tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some shopping receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and tomato ketchup before locating the gloves right at the bottom. These she donned and then Rowland helped her put everything back in her rucksack.

"Our tour leader was saying this morning that although English is the most widely spoken language of the USA, more than 350 other languages are spoken regularly, the most common being Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese and French," remarked Roy.
"Wow! That's impressive!" replied Rowland.

The Marble House, located in Newport, shows off it's beautiful sculpted stone façade, and teases visitors to step inside the "summer cottage" as it was called when built at the end of the 19th century, to explore the rest of the artistry!

Rhode Islanders were the first to take military action against England by sinking one of her ships in the Narragansett Bay located between Newport and Providence. The English ship was called "The Gaspee".

Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, established the first practical working model of Democracy after he was banished from Plymouth, Massachusetts because of his "extreme views" concerning freedom of speech and religion. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams publicly acknowledged Roger Williams, as the originator of the concepts and principles reflected in The First Amendment. Among those principles were freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of public assembly.

Erected for monument to French nobleman and General Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, it was restored in 2019, honoring his contributions in the Revolutionary War.

“If there's time at the end of the day when we get back to our accommodation, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Float said, offering Rowland a Reese's peanut butter cup from the bag and then unwrapping one for himself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Float!" said Rowland. "Very relaxing, and your painting will be a great souvenir of the Eastern Seaboard of the USA!"

Connecting Aquidneck and Conanicut Islands, the bridge is also called the Newport bridge. Named after Claiborne Pell, a Senator who lived in Newport, it's a great way to stay connected from island to island.
