The first painted eggs came from Mesopotamia, and because eggs were forbidden food during Lent, people painted eggs while Lent was being observed—after Lent, they would eat the eggs on Easter Day.

Beautifully decorated eggs “pysanka” are associated with Ukraine, and the oldest painted egg that was unearthed in northern Ukraine is dated to the end of the 17th century.

“Ooh, it's just starting to get a bit cool, Ellipse!” said xiaolu. “Can you hold my map and itinerary while I dig out my scarf?"
Ellipse good-naturedly took charge of xiaolu's possessions while he emptied his rucksack of a pack of sandwiches wrapped in greaseproof paper, a Thermos flask, a pair of galoshes, a bag of chocolate peanuts, a paperback thriller, a bottle of orange squash, an address book, some postage stamps, an assortment of different coloured biros, a bottle opener, a couple of old bus tickets, a handful of golden and silver moles, a door key, some very old receipts, a screwdriver, a bottle of multivitamins, a lottery ticket and a selection of rather battered sachets of salt, sugar and salad cream before locating the scarf right at the bottom. This he donned and then Ellipse helped him put everything back in his rucksack.

“Did you see what happened to Foxy earlier, Adaiah?” exclaimed Ellipse. "He was balancing on a log trying to take a selfie with one of the critters we met, and it rolled over and pitched him into a bank of nettles!"
Adaiah joined in Ellipse's heartless laughter. “He was still brushing bits of nettle out of his fur when we went for lunch!”

Well, not just an ordinary cicada, I'm a Canthgaster Cicada! Look at me with my nose in the air, why, some might think I'm a bit stuffy! But honestly, I'm just following my nose to the best eating spots!

My brilliant plumage has also earned me the nickname of Rainbow Pheasant, and my gorgeous array of feathers originally hailed from China, but you'll find that we were a desired export, and have adapted well to other places!

Nocturnal by nature, you'll find me hiding by day in the dark leafy greens in your garden. We tried to ramp up our street cred by saying we were vampires, but we lacked the fangs to back up the claim.

“Do you remember our last safari, Morenth?” exclaimed Ellipse. "I remember being really quite scared, trying to find the way out of that labyrinth in the dark!"
Morenth agreed. “D'you remember that scorpion? It was quite a shock coming across him in the light of the dim and flaring lamps, although he turned out to be very nice in the end.”
"It's hard to believe that was two years ago, Morenth," remarked Ellipse.

“I’ve written a postcard to my aunty to tell her about our amazing safari!” said Ellipse. “She’ll wish she was here! Where’s the nearest postbox?”
Wally shielded his eyes and rotated 360°, elaborately scanning the horizon. “I don’t think they’ve thought to provide a postbox here, Ellipse. How remiss of them!” Seeing Ellipse’s ears beginning to droop, Wally added, “Don’t worry, you can give your card to reception at the hotel to post.”

Golden fur covers me, hence my name! I live mainly in Africa munching on small critters in the night, and my Mongoose family have a fierce reputation for winning battles with Cobras, but we avoid it when we can!

The hidden valley between these hills is a popular locale for the smaller pets of PnF. Housing a city most pets overlook, the tiny prints of pets have made history with the largest tiny museum, art gallery, and comedy club in existence.
