Sunshine was distracted by the sounds of loud rustling as Shadow unfolded a very large tourist map, in the course of which she succeeded in knocking Sunshine’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped Sunshine. “We’re about to pose with this amazing creature—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

When they aren’t busy pulling a sleigh you can find these reindeer trudging through heavy snows of the Arctic regions.

Shadow and Chelsey got so engrossed in the conversation they were having with their fascinating new friend that they had to hurry along so as not to be left behind! They regretfully bade farewell to their new chum and promised to visit again!

Snowy white with a splash of orange for a beak and legs these geese can truly sneak up on you on a winter day. At least they do not have quite the same reputation as their Canadian counterparts *wink wink*

“You never know what sort of critter to expect next, do you, Noctema?" whispered Shadow. “You know, small, cute and furry or really quite, um, large, with—er—very sharp teeth.” Noctema reassured Shadow that all the critters were looking forward to meeting them, regardless of size, furriness, cuteness and/or type of teeth.

One of the friendliest birds of the Canadian winter. Many children have memories of standing outside with arms extended and feed in hand awaiting a bird to land and feed.

Shadow and Shadow had shaken paws and were now introducing themselves to the next critter who had come to meet them on this leg of the quest, who was eager to make friends and to show off a carefully tidied natural habitat!

The kings of the north reside here. While they appear large and overbearing they truly can be friendly and will invite you in for halibut.

Both Mischief and Shadow love the scenery at the next stop, and they both enjoy introducing themselves to their new friend, who has been waiting to meet them!

In the peaceful morning you can barely see their outline in the mists coming over the lake. Listen carefully and you can hear their calls to one another as they gracefully glide across the water.

While Shadow paused to drink in the view, shyla started scrabbling in her rucksack for her portable, foldable camping chair. “What are you doing with that, shyla?” asked Shadow. “We’ll need to get going in a minute or we’ll be left behind!”

The penguins of the northern hemisphere! Ok, not quite but adorable nonetheless. These critters can even be found roaming through town when they are not on the hillsides.

“What have you got in your tote bag, Azure Beauty?” asked Shadow. “It looks very full!” “I’ve come prepared for anything, Shadow,” responded Azure Beauty. “There’s deck shoes, snowshoes, tennis shoes, flip-flops, flippers, walking boots, Wellington boots—you name it, I’ve got it!”

You never know what you will experience on the coast. Here we have the brilliant purple and pink sunset speckled by soaring seabirds in the sky. Looks like tomorrow should be a good day.

“Ooh, that’s a scary looking creature!” whispered W Axl Fox. “It’s bigger than me! I’ll stay here and wait for you to come back.” “C’mon, W Axl Fox, it’ll be fine—it’s not so very big; it's a trick of perspective, and anyway, it’s looking forward to meeting us!” said Shadow.

Grouped together you never know what sort of mischief these birds will get into. Are they preparing to come into town? Maybe they are planning to fly back to sea. One never knows.

Shadow and samx295 agreed that the variety of environments on their expedition was the best ever! Shadow and samx295 exchanged opinions on which their favourite terrain had been so far, and which was the most interesting creature they had met in their travels!

This lil fella appears grumpy as he is often mistaken for a seal. He really would like to wear a sign saying I am not a seal but has thus far resisted. So please be kind when entering the beach here and do not upset the natives. They are quite friendly.

Shadow opened her rucksack to change her hat. Flutter could see Shadow had a large, floppy sunhat, a balaclava, a rain hat, a woolly bobble hat, a beanie, a deerstalker hat and a swimming cap! “Did you bring a fez too?” Flutter asked Shadow.

Shadow and Mochi were entranced at reaching this stopping place and eagerly posed for a picture standing on either side of the attractive creature they had just met!

With the grace of a ballerina and the precision of a swordsman the betta fish darts and swims around with skilled choreography. Its fins follow it like an elegant ball gown circling a dancer darting here and there. A thrill to observe.

At the very depths of the ocean you have now reached Octopus Ridge. While it may appear a little scary at first we promise you will find things to be quite welcoming here. You never know what you will discover at great ocean depths.

“What an amazing creature!” exclaimed Shadow. Moon Dancer agreed with Shadow. “I’m seeing so many animals, birds and insects that I’ve never seen before!”

It is ok. You can breathe. We just recommend staying in the middle of our shark cage here while we are at depth. Going close to the edge near the bars may be a little risky and ill advised. But isn’t that shark ever so graceful swimming around and stalking us?

Swimming and lazing around in the tropical waters one may be lucky to catch sight of these beauties floating by. Amidst the corals their colours almost glow as if illuminated by black light. Certainly a rare treat for anyone to see.

Snap on your scuba gear and go for a swim among these gentle giants. They are more likely that other whales to breech so do take care when in the water. If you aren’t so brave perhaps a Zodiac tour is more your speed.

Shadow has had a wonderful day, and has met lots of animals for the very first time, but now it is time for Shadow to go back to your page and relax.

Your pet will need to wrap up warmly and perhaps don snowshoes for this part of the quest! The journey starts in beautiful snowy scenes where some quite rare animals and birds are waiting to welcome your pet to their wintry world. The quest continues to cliffs, then rocky and sandy seashores and culminates in your pet sailing on the sea to view the watery world and its inhabitants! The octopus has promised to put in an appearance, and the shark has been practising his fiercest, most glary expression, but that’s to conceal his heart of gold and cuddly disposition! Bon voyage!
