Charlie begins his tour of "Maples, Moose & Mounties - Newfoundland & Labrador" by downloading a map of specially chosen locations!
Newfoundland Fort Amherst
The original fort dates back to the 1700's but you won't find remnants of that here today, but you'll still be able to see the gunnery and some of the artifacts from World War II, when Fort Amherst was part of keeping the German U-Boats away. The current lighthouse on the Fort was constructed after the war and stands as a warning beacon to the ships at sea.

“Let's hope Foxy doesn't get as seasick on these Canadian lakes as he did on Lake Windermere in England that time, Charlie!” said Lady Jane, studying the future itinerary.
"Can you get seasick on a lake?" asked Charlie.
"Oh yes, indeedy," said Lady Jane.
Newfoundland The Battery at St. John
Considered the welcome wagon of St. John's, the Battery is located at on the Signal Hill area, and seafarers pass the neighborhood before reaching St. John's proper.

“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse like this one pictured in our itinerary in Nova Scotia? So romantic!" mused Charlie, nibbling on a taffy lolly.
"Well, I don't know," said Choose a name. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have to run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
Charlie considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."

"Hmm—now imagine being up at dawn in the cold winter with a great deal of complicated equipment,” said Charlie. “The work doesn’t stop.”

"Have you seen this in our travel brochure, Charlie? There's a town in Vancouver Island called 'Youbou'—the founders of its mill, Mr Yount and Mr Bounton, combined the first halves of their respective surnames to make Youbou in 1914."
Cashmere grinned and thought about it for a minute. "I guess it's like Waitrose in England, from Mr Waite and Mr Rose."
"Waitrose isn't a town, though, Cashmere."
"Edgar wishes it was!"
Newfoundland Rocky Beach
The beaches at Stephenville are littered with things left after the tide rolls out. They say one man's trash is another's treasure. You'll find bits of interesting debris padding along here. Different rocks and glasses, worn smooth by the constant tumble of the sea.

Charlie and Felix came across each other in the hotel bar. "Hey, Felix, what are you going to have?"
"I thought I'd try Canada’s national cocktail, the Caesar, Charlie. It's made of vodka, clamato juice, tabasco and Worcestershire sauce."
Charlie looked puzzled. "What's clamato juice, Felix?"
"Tomato juice with clams and chilli!"
Newfoundland Stephenville Crossing
In the most Eastern limit of the Bay of St. George, you'll find this town sports the Barachois Search and Rescue, which assists with water rescues and searches of those in distress. Not for the faint of heart, for sure, but a rewarding profession!

“If there's time at the end when we get back to the hotel tonight, I might do some initial sketches for a watercolour painting," Ladybug said, offering Charlie a maple syrup toffee from the bag and then unwrapping one for herself.
“That sounds like a good plan, Ladybug!" said Charlie.

Broken Boardwalk
Sometimes being one of the most popular destinations around comes with downsides. In this case, the heavy daily use of the boardwalk has resulted in broken boards in need of repair. Visiting pets hope the boardwalk will be fixed soon.
Labrador Ice Berg
Traveling all the way from Greenland, icebergs can be seen off the coast of Labrador, sailing under their own power, with a destination only they know. You're lucky to see them gliding on the current, full of ice of ages untold.
