Phil and Midnight are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
Phil thought the scenery at this new stop was lovely and asked Lady Thea if it would be possible to set up camp for the night!

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

"Do you know what this place needs, Phil?"
"No, farid, what does it need?"
"Nothing, Phil. This scene is flawless!"

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
Phil gazed at the scene around him in awe, while Inukshuk grumbled a little about Phil's so-called shortcut, if his blisters were anything to go by!

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
Phil opened his rucksack to change his hat. Népomucène Bibliophilus could see Phil had a baseball cap, a sombrero, a beret, a straw boater, a cricket cap, a sou'wester, a large, floppy sunhat and a pith helmet!
“Did you bring a mortarboard too?” Népomucène Bibliophilus asked Phil.
Orange Splendor
The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Eevee greeted Phil cheerily, recommending he expended some silver moles on the fresh harvest food before them.
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

@ Japanese Maple in Orange
Phil and Elmeri had shaken paws and took some time to enjoy the super view in a companionable silence!

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

Wuzzle was hailed by Phil, who had also just arrived on the scene. “What a great view, Wuzzle!” said Phil. “I could stay here for hours!”

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Phil to Peanuts.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

@ Marvelous Magenta Flower
Granville bent down to sniff the flower in front of him but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Granville?” asked Phil.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said Granville.

@ Nectar Delight
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Flu Flu" said Phil. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, Phil! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

“I’m going to have to spend a lot of time when we get back looking up what all these flowers are!” said Phil to Kia.

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“I’m going to try growing these at home!” announced Phil, after he and Winter had tucked into some yummy organic harvest food!

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

Phil normally avoided tourist hotspots but he was glad he had come, especially since meeting his friend Eric here!

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said Phil. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Dorlinger sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

Phil and CUPID pooled their silver moles, hoping to buy a small souvenir or two to remind them of this beautiful place!

Inspired by the sunny day, Selina said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
Phil took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”
Selina hastily revised her romantic harvest vision.

"I don't think I've met Cicero," said Phil. "Is he on this tour?"

@ Shiny Redcurrant Berries
Phil and Sour Puss shook paws before sitting down to enjoy an autumnal harvest snack. “There’s nothing like farm-fresh food, is there, Phil?” said Sour Puss.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

"This is a glorious specimen, Cashmere", observed Phil. "What a shame that in a month or so all this colour will be gone!"
"You know the best way to get colour in your garden all year, Phil?" said Cashmere. "Buy a garden gnome!"

Growing on the side of the bridge is a mass of deep red and purple leafy vines. Deep blue berries hang in bunches just waiting to be eaten.

Sassy bent down to sniff the flower in front of her but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, Sassy?” asked Phil.

Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
