The original fort dates back to the 1700's but you won't find remnants of that here today, but you'll still be able to see the gunnery and some of the artifacts from World War II, when Fort Amherst was part of keeping the German U-Boats away. The current lighthouse on the Fort was constructed after the war and stands as a warning beacon to the ships at sea.

“Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a lighthouse like this one pictured in our itinerary in Nova Scotia? So romantic!" mused Penelope, nibbling on a taffy lolly.
"Well, I don't know," said Zoomer. "It's not all about drinking coffee and gazing at the sea. You have to run up and down stairs, operate the light and the foghorn, and there may be no running water or electricity apart from a generator."
Penelope considered this. "Mine would be a luxurious, converted, non-operational lighthouse, then."

Driftwoods abound the shore lines of Newfoundland, begging to be taken home and used as an art sculpture in the yard. Alas, how to get it in the boot of the car? And oh, yes, clear customs? Better leave it and take a photo instead!

"I thought I'd try Canada’s national cocktail, the Caesar, Penelope. It's made of vodka, clamato juice, tabasco and Worcestershire sauce."
Penelope looked puzzled. "What's clamato juice, Majestic?"
"Tomato juice with clams and chilli!"

Broken Boardwalk
Sometimes being one of the most popular destinations around comes with downsides. In this case, the heavy daily use of the boardwalk has resulted in broken boards in need of repair. Visiting pets hope the boardwalk will be fixed soon.
Labrador Ice Berg
Traveling all the way from Greenland, icebergs can be seen off the coast of Labrador, sailing under their own power, with a destination only they know. You're lucky to see them gliding on the current, full of ice of ages untold.
