Cottontail was touched by the thoughtfulness of the hotel staff in the planning of this event. On arrival she was presented with an invitation to various Valentine's Day celebrations! Cottontail decided to go to them all!

Cottontail leapt out of bed very early the next morning, and she spent quite some time drinking in the beauty of the sunrise, in happy anticipation of what the day held in store!

An ornate parchment itinerary had been slipped under her door during the night detailing that day's events. Cottontail felt that she was really being looked after by the hotel events staff! Cottontail scanned the list.

On her way back from breakfast, Cottontail was struck by the sight of a painting in the hotel corridor and she spent some minutes happily drinking in the beauty of the flowers and butterfly, in admiration of the artist's skill.

First up on the day's activities: Kaffee und Kuchen (Coffee and Cake) for elevenses in the restaurant as an initial "Get to know you" starter. Cottontail entered the room a little shyly but as the head waitress was so welcoming and solicitous, she soon lost any nervousness and enjoyed meeting several new pets!

The next event was an invigorating walk around the Salzburg countryside. The top spectacle was an amazing waterfall at Golling. Cottontail felt really privileged to have seen it!

Cottontail offered to top up the bird feeders, and did so very carefully. Just as she finished, she was thrilled when a pair of Alpine swifts alighted on the feeders, grateful for the food left out for them on such a snowy day!

In a wood, the group came across an enchanting patch of fragrant lily of the valley. One of the pets wanted to pick a bunch, but Cottontail persuaded her not to, explaining that they were best left in their natural habitat.

The group of pets went into a café after their exertions. One of the pets had come out without enough money, so Cottontail gladly paid for an extra cocoa with whipped cream and a cherry on top so that no pet was left out.

Cottontail went out for a walk in Salzburg. When she spotted a beautiful item in the shop window of a local Trödler, she went inside and bravely bartered with the seller for a price more suited to her pocket!

That afternoon's activity was a cheese and wine tasting at a shop on the Getreidegasse, the street where, in 1756, Mozart was born. Their host remarked "Cheese makes everyone happy!" Cottontail and the rest of them cheered in agreement!

Cottontail met up with the rest of the group for a walk along Lake Wolfgang. The footing was quite stony and rough, and Cottontail took care to help a few older pets who had a little difficulty in negotiating the way.

Cottontail was about to take the yummy-looking strawberry cream from the plate of chocolates offered to her when he remembered that that was the favourite of the pet sitting next to her. Cottontail selected one of the duller biscuits so that the other pet could have the strawberry cream.

When they all went through for their evening meal, Cottontail saw that each plate had been decorated with a fresh white rosebud—all except one plate, which was bare apart from a serviette. Quickly, Cottontail switched plates so that the pet who sat there wouldn't feel left out.

Cottontail had bought a little treat for their tour guide who had accompanied them on all the events, to show how much she had appreciated her looking after them all.

Cottontail bought an apricot smoothie for one of her companions on the tour, a little bear who was eager to discuss their experiences and who was writing a diary of their tour of Salzburg, Paris and Lucerne. Cottontail stayed with the little bear to help him with his spelling!

One of the group wanted to take a final walk up the hill, to view the lake lit up by evening lights, but didn't want to go alone. Cottontail volunteered to go too, even though she was rather tired.

Despite feeling rather cold, Cottontail stayed with her companion as the sun set behind the horizon, at which point they wended their way back to the hotel.

To end the day, the pets assembled in the hotel lounge and were treated to beautiful handmade chocolates, with an accompanying smoothie devised by the chef of milky chocolate and banana! They all agreed it was just the job to send them off to sleep after a very busy but highly enjoyable day!

To accompany their little treat, one of the event staff gave an illustrated talk on The Language of Flowers. Cottontail was entranced by this almost forgotten secret language and draining her chocolate and banana smoothie, thought it was one of the best evenings she had ever spent!
