Brutus and Carruthers are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Fall Fairground North
All the fun of the fair is here to provide your pet with entertainment and thrills, from waterslide to big wheel. And has your pet a strong enough stomach for a death-defying rollercoaster ride? To help restore your pet's equilibrium after all the excitements of the fairground rides, there are stalls selling hot potato snacks, popcorn, toffee apples, candy and delicious cakes and other yummy delights made from the autumn harvest produce! We hope everypet will leave clutching at least one of the fun carnival novelties!

Lady Aelfgifu and Brutus bumped into each other at the food stand. “Granny used to make this for us when we were young,” said Lady Aelfgifu. “I wonder if this will be as good?”

Fairings is the traditional name for edible souvenirs sold at fairs throughout England. These ginger fairings became associated with Cornish fairs and are still popular in the region.

Jewel got carefully down from the ride, stumbling slightly and holding tightly onto the sides. "I say, you do look a bit green, Jewel, old thing!" said Brutus. "I'm reminded of when you got seasick on our Crocodile Creek trip!"
"I was not seasick," said Jewel with dignity. "I had merely eaten something that disagreed with me."

"Would you like a fork with that, Brutus?" asked Roskaizan, as their respective servings of food were placed on the counter in front of them.
"No, that's fine, thank you, Roskaizan! I'm just going to dive in!" (which, in a manner of speaking, he then did).

"You said that about the toffee apples, the popcorn, the cinnamon buns, the candy floss and the gingerbread. You'll have to hire a lorry to carry it all home!" said Brutus.

"Just listen to that old fairground pipe organ, Jazzabell!" said Brutus. "I love the painted figures, especially the conductor keeping time at the front. You can hear the music all over the fairground!"
"It certainly adds to the atmosphere," said Jazzabell. "Hey, the ride's about to start! Let's see if we can hear the music from the top!"

Big wheel installations became an icon of World's Fairs and Exhibitions and an example at Earl's Court in London erected in 1894 expressed fine engineering combined with opulence. Meanwhile, across the Pond, George Ferris led the way in big wheel design.

From the queue, Dante nervously eyed the fairground ride whirling beside himself and Brutus. “What if the cable breaks?” he asked. “Oh, that won’t be a problem!” said Brutus airily. “They can always get another one!”

“Hello again, Brutus!” called Slimer. “Do you want to join me on this ride?”
“You bet—let me just finish my ice cream!” Slimer waited while Brutus had the last lick of ice cream and munched the last inch of cornet, then they excitedly queued up for the ride!

The world's oldest roller coasters descended from specially constructed hills of snow in the gardens of palaces around the Russian capital, St Petersburg, in the 18th century. The slides were built to a height of between 70 ft - 80 ft (21-24 m), had a 50 degree drop. These slides became popular with the Russian upper class."Russian mountains" remains the term for roller coasters in many languages, such as Spanish (la montaña rusa), Italian (montagne russe), and French (les montagnes russes). Ironically, the Russian term for roller coaster, "amerikanskie gorki", translates literally as "American mountains."

Tickety-Boo and Brutus watched the antics on the waterslide as they stood in the line of pets waiting to board the next ride. "Remember when Foxy leant too far over the bridge in Meadowlands that time, and fell in the pond with a huge splash?" asked Brutus. "My stomach muscles ached from laughing for days!"

As sunset falls, you enjoy the ever-changing view as you chug a little further upwards and then pause as each pod takes on its precious cargo of pets eager to enjoy the ride. Then when all the pods are full, the wheel starts to turn, building up speed!

“That should keep me going till I get home tonight,” said pengo to Brutus, while crumpling her used food container and placing it carefully in a litter bin.
“Or at least until the next food stall!” observed Brutus.
