ChipPotato and Molly are excited to find out what is in store for them in the Autumn Experience! As they enter, they each receive a free map! It reads:
Autumn in Red
Fall foliage in striking hues of red and orange will be seen all around on this tour along the riverbank. Your pet can collect pine cones, sample wild berries and currants, view beautiful plants in purple and red, and perhaps spot some exotic birdlife! Everypet will enjoy lingering on the bridge to view the peaceful scene as the sun goes down turning the river pink as it does so ...
PnF Meeting House
Before we begin the journey we need to check-in here to pick up a trail map and some travel snacks. Be sure to sign the register with how many are in your travel party and how long you plan to be on the trail. Don't forget to take a potty break before you head out!

Episode 2/25

@ Sleepy River Sunrise
"Minnie the Moo-cher, just take a look all around you and breathe deeply! Get that good fresh air in your lungs! Does it get any better than this?" asked ChipPotato, who had just met Minnie the Moo-cher at this Autumn Experience stop.

The sun is just beginning to illuminate the sky, casting a warm glow on the sleepy river and the sleepy pets in the village. We begin our journey early in the cool of the day as the PnF weatherpet has predicted an unusually warm autumn day ahead.

@ Sunrise Silhouette
“I could stay here forever, ChipPotato,” said Leena. “This is an amazing place!”
“Well, you never know what lies ahead, Leena. I wouldn't be surprised if the next stop is even better!” said ChipPotato.

As the sun continues to rise and the chill of the morning gives way, some of the hikers begin to shed their warm jackets and stuff them in their packs. A lone plant is dramatically silhouetted in the sun's golden light.

@ Autumn Stillness
The quiet and serenity of the next scene made ChipPotato and Drago feel like they were the only pets left in PnF Land ...

As we behold the beauty of the golden leaves in the nearby trees, some clouds have rolled in, obscuring the sun for a bit. Some small fish in the river below are dining on insects that skim along the surface, creating little ripples on the calm water.

@ Orange Splendor
“Shall we take a selfie?” ChipPotato asked Bones as they drank in the peaceful scene and admired each other’s purchases of harvest produce.
Orange Splendor
The glorious colors of autumn overflow in profusion along the trail prompting a chorus of 'oohs' and 'ahs' among the travelers. We pause and stare in rapturous awe for a moment before proceeding.

@ Ginger Root
Bear and ChipPotato, after shaking paws, admired the crop of harvest produce in front of them. “I didn’t know it looked like that just after harvest,” said ChipPotato. “I’ve only seen it in the shops!”
Ginger Root
Ginger root is a well-known natural remedy for some common ailments. If you are prone to stomach upset and indigestion, nibbling on a small piece of raw ginger or drinking ginger tea can help alleviate your symptoms. But it is most useful on the journey as it helps your body to recover from muscle soreness after over-exertion. It will definitely come in handy today!

“Shall we take a selfie?” ChipPotato asked Brown Bobby as they drank in the peaceful scene and admired each other’s purchases of harvest produce.

An important reminder when one is out on an adventure: remember to look up! There is so much beauty around us, we don't want to miss any of it, especially when it is something as wonderful as the sun's rays filtering through the orange leaves of this Japanese Maple tree.

BoBo shook paws with ChipPotato and was just enjoying the view when she was distracted by loud rustling as ChipPotato unfolded a very lengthy Autumn Experience itinerary, in the course of which he succeeded in knocking BoBo’s hat off. “Put that away, do!” snapped BoBo. “I’m about to take a photo of this amazing scene—the picture will be of your map if you don’t fold it up pronto!”

See, glancing upward occasionally does have its benefits! As we continue along the trail we see a different variety of Japanese Maple, no less beautiful than the orange one. A treat to our eyes, this one is adorned in a fabulous crimson red.

@ Delightful Dahlia
“What’s this flower called?” ChipPotato said to Gingersnap. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Gingersnap and hastily changed the subject.

The PnF gardener has done a fabulous job landscaping along the trail. Pots of flowers have been placed throughout to display an array of vivid autumn colors. This deep pink hued dahlia is delightful!

“What’s this flower called?” ChipPotato said to Lyra. “Er—I only know the Latin name for it,” said Lyra and hastily changed the subject.

@ Nectar Delight
"I wish I knew more about horticulture, Midnight" said ChipPotato. "Sometimes I can't tell if something's a plant or a weed!"
"Oh, there's a sure-fire way of telling the difference, ChipPotato! Pull on it—if it comes out of the ground easily, it's a really valuable plant.”

Be still and maybe it won't see you. Look over there on that red flower. It's a Micronesian Myzomela, and I almost didn't see it as it is somewhat camouflaged by the wispy red flowers it is sipping nectar from.

"I think I'll take a cutting of the plant in that tub over there," said ChipPotato. The label says it's 'vigorous' and 'fearless'."
Pansy sniffed. "That's gardeners' talk for 'an invasive species that will take over your entire garden if permitted'!"

@ Basket of Pine Cones
“Great to meet you again, Butterfree!” said ChipPotato. “Come and have some of this farm-grown organic food—it’s absolutely yummy!”

According to the note attached to the basket, each of us is supposed to take a pine cone and plant the seeds in the designated area ahead. A park ranger will give us instructions when we get there. A pine forest covered in fresh snowfall is one of the most beautiful sights to see in winter. I'm happy to help add to that beauty!

ChipPotato and Cat Blossom were entranced at reaching this stopping place and eagerly posed for a picture!

@ Autumn Rose Bouquet
gemma bent down to sniff the flower in front of her but recoiled hastily. “What’s up, gemma?” asked ChipPotato.
“There’s a huge bumblebee on it!” said gemma.

The unmistakable fragrance of roses captures my attention as I leave the wooded area. I look down to see a beautiful arrangement of autumn-hued roses in a white ceramic pot.

Choco nearly stumbled over ChipPotato, who was lying full length on the grass. “I was wishing I’d brought my watercolours,” said ChipPotato. “This just cries out to be painted!”

Inspired by the sunny day, Lucy said, “Wouldn't it be fun to work on the harvest?”
ChipPotato took a more pragmatic view. “You’d have to be up before dawn every day and work for 12 hours practically non-stop!”

“Isn’t this amazing, Sir Precious McPrance?” declared ChipPotato. “I’m seeing so many flowers and shrubs that I’ve never seen before!”

“Hey, Honey!” called out ChipPotato. “Come and have some of this—it’s delicious!”
Honey was glad to rest and enjoy the food ChipPotato shared with her.

Wild redcurrants can be found all over the countryside. They look temptingly sweet to eat, but these shiny red berries are usually made into redcurrant jelly because of their tartness.

@ Teasels and Carnations
"How on earth do you identify what this is from the thousands of things it could be?" asked S'not.
"Well," said ChipPotato, "you go through a checklist. Like what sort of leaves does it have, how are they arranged on the stem, do they have stalks, what's its habitat; that kind of thing. I'll lend you a book when we get home."
Teasels and Carnations
Teasel weeds are a very common roadside plant. They look beautiful for being a weed, don't they? They are a favorite among crafters as they can be dried and painted any color. These lovely bi-color pink carnations pair perfectly with the purple painted teasels.
