Odin steps off the boat onto Aegis with fellow traveller Nanuk. Time for a look around, but first a long stretch after the voyage!

This rocky bay provides the perfect place for anypet to rest, play with the numerous pebbles and watch the changing patterns of sunlight on the stone outcrops and distant peaks, or perhaps to dip a cautious paw into the unceasing sea waves running in and back out.

Odin and Cherokee pool their small change, hoping to buy some small souvenirs to remind them of this place!

Anypet will enjoy exploring the sand dunes with their sharply pointed grey-green leaves and large spikes of creamy-yellow flowers of marram grass in the summer, the backdrop to a sandy beach and the sea.

Odin and Pickles looked around in awe, wishing they'd thought to pack a picnic to enjoy here!

This beautiful little bay is irresistible to pets who can’t wait to scamper or flap over the golden sand to get to the top of the stony peninsula and gaze far out to the horizon over the sea.

Odin asked Mr. Panda if he had a fur clip on him, as Odin wanted to fashion a fishing pole and stop to dangle a line...?

A feat of engineering that certainly stands out in the countryside. It’s a place to stop and dream of where the trains thundering past will be going!

While Odin normally avoids tourist hotspots, he is glad he allowed Merlin to bring him here!

Admiring the view, Odin felt genuinely glad he had taken Daba's advice on where the friends would meet up!

A well-trodden path, with the company of sheep along the way, provides a view of the lake and distant hills. What lies behind that tempting bend in the way, I wonder?

Odin was surprised to meet Beatrice here! But they were both delighted to find plenty of travel tokens!

Of all the pets Odin might have met here, Redington was the last he expected. But what a great view!

As birds fly home to roost and busy pets retire for the night, the West Pasture in Aegis becomes darker and quiet in the setting sun, waiting for the first stirrings from nocturnal pets who are active during the night.

Odin was becoming increasingly irritated with the constant clicking and beeping of Scaredy Cat's camera disturbing the peace and quiet, so Odin moved purposefully on without him!

On Sunday afternoons, many pets take an excursion in the formal gardens, which display the Dutch influence of bright tulips making a fine splash of colour against the immaculate lawn.

Odin finally makes it back to the landing stage, where Caroline Piper is also about to embark and go home. What an adventure it has been! Odin pockets a map of Aegis as a momento. The guidebook says:

When their vessel carefully manoeuvres past the rocks to reach the landing stage, the pets can jump out and explore this delightful little island. There are beautiful, relaxing sandy beaches, rocky hills to climb, a viaduct and old castle ruin to explore, green pastures to take a picnic hamper, woods and forests to ramble in, rivers to jump over, apples to pick and there are flowers galore!
